Another crate question

My little dog is 15 months old and was crate trained from day 1. We now leave her out of the crate in the day if we are out as she seems to be past the chewing stage now and she seems to prefer her basket. She still goes in the crate at night. Doesn't seem to mind, especially as she gets half a gravy bone last thing at night when I put her in it. She never cries or whinges in it. DH leaves for work early at 6.30 am and doesn't go in the lounge where the crate is. She stays asleep I think and for this reason DH wants to keep her in the crate at night so he doesn't have to let her in the garden etc. before he leaves for work. However, I feel bad for some reason putting her in the crate at night now she is past the puppy stage. I worry that there might be a fire and she wouldn't be able to get out. Should I leave her in the crate at night? She is so quiet in it - do you think she is happy in it? Does anyone else leave their adult dogs in crates at night? If you did but now don't, what age was your dog when you got rid of the crate? Silly questions but I can't make up my mind whether to swap her to a basket at night. Any advice much appreciated!

I use my crate for my puppy (5 months) but previously we used it for my other large dog, who will be 2 in March. The only reason that we stopped was because he wasnt well and we had him up during the night, so it was easier if he could get to us to be let out or the bottom of the stairs.

He liked the crate, was happy in it but doesnt need it. The puppy on the other hand, I cant ever see me getting rid of a crate! She is a totally different dog and is very very nosy and in at everything all the time. Grin

My dog is 2 years old - he still has his crate set up in the play room and he chooses to go in at least for a few hours every day for a nap - he likes it in there .....

Yes, its only since she has stopped going in it of her own accord that I have started to question whether I should still put her in it at night. Maybe I should just leave the door open now at night and see what she does.Thanks.
