Day 2 of new dog and cats appear to have left home

We have just got an approx month old springer. He is very excited (as you would expect) and has been chasing the cats at every opportunity. Not in an aggressive way but just in an 'oh something to run after' way. We've tried 'introducing the cats' while he has been on a lead but then he see them in the garden or they happen to walk through the room and he is after them.

Any tips on how to stop it - if the cats come home:( I can't get them to come even when called and rattling a box of treats at the minute.

my cats have never come when called, we put baby gate so that could shut dog in dining room if cats wanted to chill in lounge, fed them at the other sidde of the baby gate and the dog is never allowed upstairs, I moved the cats beds into our bedroom a while before we got the dog. 1 cat still spends most of his time next door though (always has so not exculisve to the dog), they will get used to things but it will take a while.

Have put a stair gate up and some cat food is the other side of it and the dog will never be allowed upstairs.

One cat has come back this morning but still no sign of the other one.

We got our dogs in July, they are Cinnamon trust long term foster dogs. One of our cats has moved in next door and will never come in our house now. If next door are away she appears for food but still doesn't come in. The other cat is in and out as normal but took a few months and some very cold weather to reach this. We feed him upstairs and also have a stairgate and don't ever let the dogs up there. Good luck! I hoping that our other cat may get used to them eventually. Luckily are neighbours are ok with the situation.

The other cat has come back and both came downstairs earlier apparently when I took the dog for a walk. We've put food upstairs and will continue to coax them down when the dog is not about so that hopefully they can get more confident.

My cat is dog confident as we have always had dogs. He still moves upstairs and lives under dd2's bed everytime I bring home a new pet. No matter what sort of pet it is.

He sulked under there for a day and a half last week because I dared to invite my sisters puppy into our house for all of 15 minutes Shock

For Dog1 he lived upstairs for 10 days. Dog 2 was less excitable. He only went upstairs for 4 days.

Wait and see. With time they should get over it.

my cats took weeks to come back to normal. We have baby gates up already because of LO but it helps. We also put food upstairs and made sure they could get in the house without passing the dog. They did come back in the end but still now 8 months later still run pass him.

They're in the huff.

Maybe like me you'll have a cat who decides that playing/torturing the dog is more fun!
