Dog Breeders Insurance

Does anyone know of any policies suitable for breeding. Have just rung the Kennel Club, they informed me that effective breeding cover wont start for 12 weeks, from start date of policy ( our bitch was mated 3 weeks ago) so no use to us! I cant see the sense in it, yet more money making and red tape from the Kennel Club. (angry)
Wanted something in place incase it all goes hideously wrong so any suggestions gratefully recieved.

It would probably have been best to sort this out before mating your bitch... I hope you put more thought into everything else...

I don't know anywhere other than the KC that do breeders insurance, hence itr is sensible to have plenty of spare cash to hand beforehand in case of emergencies or complications.

Well thank you for your reply, yes we put a years thought into this, all relevant health checks, finding the right stud dog, puppy placement etc. We are also experienced but have never insured before and didnt realise there was a 12 week clause.

I don't have anything to do with breeding whatsoever but perhaps Midori can give you a run down of some of the basic expenses if it does go wrong, such as the average cost of a caesarean, the cost of an overnight stay in the vets, of an out of hours scan and soforth, so you know what you might be facing and can budget for it.

Thanks Vallhala, We have a good idea of how much it will all cost should there be any problems. We have always had trouble free whelpings but she is a maiden bitch in a breed that we have not owned before. But she is fit and healthy so fingers crossed all will go well for her, she is so lovely. [smile}
