My little dog (15 mth old cavalier x bichon) took ages to learn to go up and down stairs and has never learnt to jump on anything. She is allowed on the couch if I am on it but I have to lift her on it. She is fine in the car but won't jump into it, have to lift her into it. She loves agility however and can jump over little jumps without any difficulty. Is this just her being lazy? She is very laid back and has been since we got her as a puppy. I have tried leaving treats on the sofa/in the car to encourage her as she is very food orientated but this doesn't work. Have I spoiled her by lifting her onto sofa all the time? This isn't really a problem, I'm just curious really to see what people think!

Think it sounds blissful Grin (writing from the tiny bit of sofa the dog hasn't managed to comandeer)

Actually, after all these months of never trying to jump on the sofa, we tried throwing her favourite toy on it this evening (squeaker rabbit) and she flew after it and jumped on it for the first time!
Just need to get her to jump in the car now.... Probably a late developer Smile

My Whippet cannot jump onto the sofa if someone is there to lift her up, nor can she jump over the backstep.

She can however manage to get on the dining table when there is food left unattended Hmm

I think it is just laziness yes Grin Why waste your energy when someone will lift you? Dogs are much smarter than we give them credit for.

Think you're right - she sort of turns around and backs up towards me so I can pick her up and put her on the sofa! Can't believe I've fallen for it all these months!
