last night of bloat. She was only 6.

If you have a deep chested dog then please clue yourself up on the symptoms.

Freya died while I was on the phone to the vet. If I had spotted her symptoms earlier she may well still be with us.

I'm so sorry :(

Scuttlebutter · 18/01/2011 00:31

So sorry. As greyhound owners we are very aware and very cautious. Sending lots of condolences.

CalamityKate · 18/01/2011 01:00

So sorry :(

JaxTellersOldLady · 18/01/2011 08:12

I am so sorry to read this. My DH and I were just talking about this the other day.

We feed our dogs on stands and are aware that it is a very short time period that you have to get to the vets for treatment.

Sending lots of hugs from me and my dogs.

daisydotandgertie · 18/01/2011 08:18

I am so very sorry.

I nearly lost one of my girls to bloat/gastric torsion - it really was within a whisker. It's the most awful, absolute emergency situation.

I shall be thinking of you all day and send very many condolences.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. We lost two family dogs just before x-mas so what you are feeling is still quite fresh to me. It is an awful empty feeling, but you will feel better with time.

I agree with others, please do not blame yourself for this, you did the best you could at the time. Up until a few months ago I didn't even know what bloat was.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 18/01/2011 16:02

Thankyou for all your lovely messages.

It's difficult not to blame ourselves but if someone else reads this and as a result gets help a bit sooner then at least some good has come of a tragedy.

There is a big dog shaped hole left in out house.

Sad this was not your fault.

Sad @ 'dog-shaped hole'

Sorry to hear this, my Wei is 8 so i know what characters they are. I know it is too soon as yet, but there is a Weimaraner rescue - my friend adopted her boy from there.

Echoing others here, this was not your fault, be kind to yourself.

DrNortherner · 18/01/2011 17:06

Oh no Sad

I love my dog and know how devastated I would be if he died.

DrNortherner · 18/01/2011 17:10

Well you have educated me as I have never heard of it. Just googled now.

SlubberdeGurnard · 18/01/2011 17:28

So sorry to hear this Sad

minimu1 · 18/01/2011 18:07

Oh you poor thing what an awful thing to happen. It does sound as if you are educating people here though and that will certainly help others. Sad

kid · 18/01/2011 19:07

I am so, so sorry to hear about your dog dying.
I have heard of bloat but don't know much about it so I have just read up on the symptoms and causes.
