Down Dog......?

DDog has just returned from best part of a two week "holiday" at the seaside. The first ten days we were there with her, the last four days, we had to return home for school and work, but MIL kindly offered to keep DDog on for the rest of their stay. This is DDog's idea of heaven, MIL is her joint favourite person (along with DH) and she absolutely adores all that being at the seaside offers.

Since being home on Wednesday night, I have barely had a peep out of her. She doesn't get up in the morning, she nips out for a wee when I make her, has her food and just retreats back into her crate. I never close the crate door, even at night, she is free to come and go as she pleases. Even the arrival home of DH in the evenings which normally sends her into ecstatic spirals of joy has not lifted her spirits, she has kind of just about dragged herself out of her bed, and gone straight back in again.

She is a nearly 3 yo very very lively (normally) labrador. Slightly insane actually, so this very sudden about turn in her behaviour is causing me a bit of concern.

Is she down/depressed? Perhaps a bit poorly (though no obvious signs, so I don't think so).

TIA

Are her poos OK?

She might just be a bit unsettled due to the to-ing and fro-ing but TBH I'd take her to the vet just to make sure nothing's physically wrong.

Yes, she seems fine in all ways, except her general demeanour. Bit snuffly though, I did notice some very heavy breathing (whilst she was awake in her bed) earlier on today.

She is very used to going to the seaside, in and out of our car, MIL's car or whatever, so I'd be surprised if she is unsettled, all familiar places and people.

I keep forgetting she has come home, this morning, I simply went out and only about ten minutes later did I think, oh god, the dog, has she been for a wee or whatever. Normally the second she sees me getting my bag/jangle keys or vaguely look like I am going somewhere she is at the door, ready to go - doesn't care where, just wants to go!

I walked her yesterday but she was very unbothered (very out of character) but have NOT walked her today in case she simply needs a bloody good rest for whatever reason. DH look her last night and said she was a the end of the lead behind him the whole way which is frankly bizarre and has never happened before!

Oh well, we will keep an eye over the weekend. Maybe she is just readjusting a bit..

Cheers!

She sounds unwell - I would take her to the vets if not better by tomorrow am.

CalamityKate · 15/01/2011 13:03

If she's snuffly and heavy breathing, she definitely needs to see the vet!
