he's singing :)

This may be utter tosh but I have heard that they view it as a group howl. My collies "join in" to anything played on DC's Early learning Center trumpet or a recorder. On the other hand, they bolt for the back door when I play my cello. I think that says more about my ability than pack behaviour though. Grin

so he is just joining in then? that is quite nice, i thought it may be because his ears were hurting

haha my DH had a dog who howled every time Corrie theme tune came on, when it was all trumpety. I think it was because DH played the trumpet and the dog wanted to join in. It used to make us all laugh.

my childhood JRT used to do this when i sang. i loved it.

One of my dogs howls at certain ring tones on my mobile. I have it set to continental ring now as he's ok with that one.

Dp said he thinks he howls as it upsets or unsettles him as he doesn't look happy while he's howling.

We used to get our family dog to howl by playing pith pipes, very sweet and funny at the time, but he looked very mournful about it and it always made us feel bad afterward.

When I was young, my sheltie used to howl every time I played the violin - a really, really, loud, ear piercing howl that just went on and on until I stopped. I always assumed it was because I was rubbish a beginner.

When I got to Grade 5 and he was still doing it, I decided that maybe I was never going to be a virtuoso violinist and gave up. Grin

LOL mine does it to the mouth organ too. I keep meaning to put it on cue so she'll "sing" when I ask her to Grin

Wierldly playing a mouth organ summons our cats!

Our Old English used to howl at the ice cream van. Think it may be to do with their hearing. High pitched noise..
