Anyone have a Keeshond?

We have finally given in to DD (7)and DS(4), and have promised to get a puppy this summer. DH is keen on Keeshond's - does anyone have one, and how are they with children/training etc?

Staffordshire Bull Terriers are the best breed to be around children according to the UK Kennel Club and lots of other experts.

Have you thought about rescuing instead of buying? Rescues get in young dogs and will match your family to it's perfect dog, plus you will recieve lifelong support and advice.

They bark! Very clever dogs that will need to be worked - great jumpers so would do well at agility. They can be quite clingy so you have to work hard to prevent separation anxiety.

Very very clever dogs so will learn good habits and bad habits just as easily I would not recommend this as a first dog. They are not a dog that will be satisfied with a couple of walks a day but will require training and being kept busy for all of their lives or they will go selfemployed and find their own activities which you may not agree with.

They can be a bit unsure around new things and will need careful socialising to prevent timidity.

I would go for a Staffie who will adore your childre be a great big hot water bottle to cuddle up to and will just love doing what ever the family is. Probably even enjoy being dressed up and pushed in a toy pram!

Another who says go for a staffie from rescue.

Another who will advocate rescue over buying every time. I'm involved in rescue and I see too many dogs die for want of homes to do otherwise.

I would say they are not a dog for a first time owner (no idea if you are or not).

And would agree with the sentiments above.
