I might be getting a two year old male lurcher/lab x tomorrow who will need rehoming.

A friend of my sisters couldn't manage him as a puppy and so gave him to a friend of a friend. She has been informed that he is in the pound. She contacted the prison she gave him to who do not want him back and she is not in position to take him back.

The pound told her as the dog has been abandoned they can and will put him to sleep if she dies not either claim him herself or find a home for him.

She is devastated about this.

My sis is currently trying to contact her to let her know she can bring him to me until we can find a suitable rescue place him.

I'm at work on my phone hence the lack of grammar and angry faces but will check the thread when I can

Bastard pound! Not your local one is it?

Yep, no problem matey. :) As always, I can't promise but can have a bloody good go. My Lurcher contacts are good people who really know their stuff so hopefully we should have a fighting chance of success.

When you speak to them, if you could get as much info on him - age, vax, neutered, temperement, good with kids/cats/dogs, you know the stuff, it would be very, very much apreciated.

Good luck with it, just shout when and if you need me.

this is why i love Val.

DooinMeCleanin · 08/01/2011 00:47

AFAIK it is my local pound, but I am hearing all of this second hand from my sis, so not 100% sure what's going on.

I haven't heard back from her yet, so she can't have gotten in touch in with her yet.

Am worried now. Any luck? If it's your lot and you can give me an idea of his size, age and colour for identification purposes I'll give Joan a call (presuming she's still in charge there) and try to persuade her to hold pooch and work from there.

DooinMeCleanin · 09/01/2011 12:15

No, we still can't get in touch with the girl whose dog it is. My sister doesn't know many details and I can't see any Lurcher/Lab x dogs on our pound site, but there is a lab/whippet x she thinks it could possibly be that one.

I think my sis is gonna try and get hold of her boyfriends number today.

My sister thinks it's lab/sighthound cross. It's male. It's around two years old. It's name might begin with an H. The girl whose name I can PM if you need it has phoned and spoke to either the pound or the council about his dog, so afaik the pound thinks no-one is coming to collect this dog.

Feck! Confused?! You will be! Confused :)

DooinMeCleanin · 09/01/2011 13:38

She's going to see the girl very soon where she works thank god. My sister as lovely as she is, is not the brightest match in the box when it comes to remebering what people have told her Wink Grin

She is going to ask the girl to phone me and I'll let you details as soon as I do.

OFFS. I despair of some people. Really I do.

Just had a message from my sister "His name is dexter and he's a Labrador cross XXXXX said she doesn't have the money to get him out and she has no way to get him out so do what you like " (exact words copied from my FB Angry) This is the puppy she bought and gave away because she couldn't arsed to train it not to eat it's own shit. How you manage to do yor job when you have to talk face to face to people like this is beyond me Vall. She owned this dog for 6 months. Does that mean nothing to her?

I'm trying to find out what colour he is for you now.

What do we do now? I can't let this dog die when he has space here until rescue can be found.

DooinMeCleanin · 09/01/2011 14:14

He is lab/whippet one we thought he was. Kennel no. 4311.

She is willing to drive to go and collect him, but doesn't have the £40 they said she needs to pay. I could give it to her (it doesn't sound like she cares enough about the dog just get a borrow) but it wll be a strain just after x-mas. Not sure if you will be able to arrange anything?

Vallhala · 09/01/2011 14:27

Leave it with me, I'll have a go.

Vallhala · 09/01/2011 14:44

Pound manager says he can be collected tomorrow, please call in advance to make arrangements so that she can ensure there is someone there to hand him over.

I offered to pay for his release BUT she's waived the release fee and says that she will chip him and send him out with a free neutering voucher.

She says that she picked him up - the owner had dumped him in a garden. He's VERY scared, poor boy, and, be warned, is starting to show signs of dog-wariness. I assurred her that he will be safe in your hands and that you can cope. :)

If for whatever reason he can't be collected tomorrow PLEASE CALL HER ASAP as they are stuffed to the gills with dogs and he is at risk.

She told me they are innundated with Staffies atm and that she picked up a Rott over Xmas, who gave birth to 5 puppies. Four of them died. :(

So, I've volunteered to appeal for rescue spaces for the Staffies... which isn't going to be easy... :(

DooinMeCleanin · 09/01/2011 14:55

Thank you Vall. You're an angel. I have my trainer on hand to make sure the intro to The Devil Dog goes smoothly Smile and puppy is very very calm, so that shouldn't to be too hard, but with TDD showing new problems as soon as his old ones are fixed Hmm the trainer is always booked in advanced and we have three more sessions already paid for, plus his lifelong telephone/email support Grin

I'll let you know when I have him safely here and will start emailing rescues asap. And good luck with the Staffords. Poor dogs Sad.

tis you that's the angel, I'm just helping. :)

When you have the measure of him in the home do you want to pm me your assessment and I'll put an email out to all the rescues I know?

DooinMeCleanin · 09/01/2011 15:04

Yes I will do. Cat is often walk about during the day time, so I will wait until he is in and see how he takes to fat cat and my kids (with v v close supervision of course)

Val, just read this. On behalf of all good dog owners and dogs everywhere, thank you Smile

DooinMeCleanin · 10/01/2011 12:15

Just to let you know he is on his way. My sister has just been to collect a collar for him and we are meeting him in the park with Devil Dog as per advised by the trainer.

I have a back up temporary home (my parenrts house) now in place incase things go really really bad. Anything less than really really bad I can cope with and train.

I'll let you know how it all goes. Trainer is meeting us in the park if we need him to.
