irritated ears?

My staffy has an irritated ear, he slaps his head back and forth and scratches it - I have taken him to the vet, who gave me some cleaning fluid and anti mite/fungal drops, but it hasn't really cleared it up.

I will take him back, but wondered if anyone had any advice otherwise?

Had similar issues with a dog in the past. It took regular use of the drops and cleaning to keep under control. He had a narrowing of the ear canal and as the wax etc built up it would lead to itchy- smelly- infections. When it was bad the stuff I cleaned out was dark brown.

Never studied the inside of staffies ears, but with mine I used cotton wool buds dampened in cooled boiled water to clear stuff from the ridgey bits- obviously never in the ear canal.

I'd go back, get them to check, and if they still think it's an issue for the drops get them to give you a couple of bottles and try using the drops daily and cleaning daily for a few weeks then moving to every three days until you're out of drops.

It could be that your dog has developed a bacterial infection though, and it's no longer something the drops can deal with, so I'd go back to the vets soon.

There's also the unlikely possibility that the drops dealt with the problem and he's reacting to the cleaning fluid!
