Just been round my parents, mum has been looking at rescue sites but dad says she cant have a dog, this started a discussion on the fact that most rescue dogs are staffies. This is apparently because they are vicous nasty dogs that will go for any other dog. Nothing I said could convince them otherwise because what would I know. I am now really riled, shouldnt let it bother me. anyway thought I would have a rant where I knew people agree with me.

Ah, they need to get in touch with their local rescue centre and have a chat with them. Dogs seem to be one of those subjects that non-dog owners love to go on about. And there really are a lot of irresponsible dog owners out there, of all breeds/shapes/sizes. So much of it will be a theory for them.

Good rescue centres will hammer it home to them about what they will be taking on, and will do a home check, monitor things afterwards, etc. Let your mum and dad have their row, sounds like it's all based on fabulous theory.

DH and I have been dog owners all our lives, and my mother's a dog training instructor. We've all seem bad tempered and/or neurotic dogs of almost every breed imaginable. Most of it has been because the dog has been delusional about their status in the family 'pack' or because they've been feeling insecure (e.g. lost or new dog/child on the scene.)

By the sounds of it you wont ever convince him of the true nature of Staffies, due to the misreporting of the breed in the tabloid press.Thisartticle sums it up perfectly for me and this quote made me laugh,RSPCA chief vet Mark Evans said:
"Staffies have had a terrible press, but this is not of their own making -
in fact they're wonderful dogs.
If people think that Staffies have problems,
they're looking at the wrong end of the dog lead!"

My mum unfortunately believes the same. Also all rescue dogs are in rescue because they are bad dogs, otherwise why didn't their owners keep them?

Fortunately my Dad believes otherwise and once my sisters pup has setteled in and is vaccinated etc he is off to the pound in search of a Terrier type dog.

My Step-father is similarly stupid lacking in understanding and awareness, Dooin. Drives me nuts!

Diva, just show your Dad this picture of two rescue staffies and tell him that rescue knows otherwise!

All together now.... Ahhhhhh!
