My lovely lab is now almost 11 weeks and had his last jab on xmas eve, for the last 2 days ive been taking him for a little walk just around our road, but he hates it!! Hmm i have to constantly encourage him to walk or he just sits there, looking at my like im mad lol, he seems to enjoy having a good sniff round but thats it really as soon as he sees our house he is so eager to get back in. what do i do? i could try some treats but id have thought i nice little explore would be a big enough reward? he's not scared btw he is quite a brave little pup Grin.

Also if i tug him along a bit, his collar chokes him, it just a standard collar not a choke one, its not to tight either i can fit 2 fingers down it, plus i dont really want to adjust it smaller and him slip his collar, should i get him some sort of harness?

Keep at it, take him out 3 times a day (for 5 minutes), use treats to encourage him to walk and to reward him. You could try a harness (they are more secure). My dog was always better off the lead (she would just follow me) but this is only ok if you have fields near you.

3 cute, think I have got a harness in the drawer somewhere, used it on pup, she was exactly the same. should fit him bur prob only for a couple of weeks.

Thanks Marne, yes my old Lab was always better of lead to, i shall try him offlead if i ever manage to get him as far as the park lol, there are loads of main roads round here so off lead isnt an option until til he's trained to heel.

Oh yes please Dita, off to panto this afternoon but ill try and pop later (after tea) may even bring my crocodile if thats ok?

absolutly fine, dd1 is annoyed with dd2 because she got to meet croc. Grin have found it and I think it will fit as was on the tightest setting for my pup.

had the same problem with my little one at first, but after a few days of being enticed with treats he now can't wait to go for walkies!!

Have also found a harness to be slightly easier and taking him out with the children seemed to work better for him at first because he could 'chase' them Smile

Not many pups do to start with. Start with getting him used to the leash in the house. Put the leash on him walk a couple of steps away and call him to follow with a treat. Praise madly when he follows. Repeat this until he is confident walking in the hsoue before you take him into the big, scary world.

Is he used to being outside? It would help his confidence if you carried him for a little bit so he can get used to the sights and sounds of the outside world.

He'll soon get there.

He's just being naturally cautious - just keep at it and keep talking to him, reassuring him and find something to encourage him like a favourite toy and/or some treats. Before you know it he will be tearing around like a loon full of confidence!
