Electric Shock Collars - Illegal?

OKComputer · 28/12/2010 18:19

An (awful) woman I know has two fox terriers and sadly "works" them.

One has an electric shock collar. A friend told me that they're illegal, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone know about this, please?

Thanks.

How do you know it's n electric shock collar?

I have an anti bark collar for my Jack Rusell that vibrates, it's not an electric shock though. I don't use it, mind you.

Interested to know how you know that / why you can't ask her / what the point of your post is.

They are legal in England but banned in Wales I think

She told me today that it's an electric shock collar. She said it gives him a shock and keeps him in check.

I'd like to let her know that it's illegal and why it's illegal, if it is!

Sadly no, they're not illegal in England. They are in Wales but we're lagging behind.

You can tell the stupid woman that the Dogs Trust, RSPCA and Kennel Club are all fervently against the use of electric shock collars.

OKComputer · 28/12/2010 18:52

Thanks for the info. I can't believe they're legal.

Mind you, I'd hardly expect a woman who happily puts dogs underground to fight foxes to have any compassion!

Words fail me.. well, polite ones at least!

This might be worth showing the nasty specimen

Thanks. Don't worry, I've discussed terrierwork and the Hunting Act with her. She knows I'm keeping a watchful eye >evil cackle< Wink

I remember two golden retrievers having electric shock collars years ago.

They were completely out of control and eventually killed a jack russel.

I've no doubt that the collars sent them mad Sad
