Dog being effected by damp?

My dog (a working collie bought from a farmer but is now a pet) has developed a wheezing sort of cough that is brought on when she exerts herself. She's not ill in any other way, so I was wondering if it could be the effect of the damp? The house we rent is riddled with it, our furniture is rotting etc. Does anyone know if it can cause chest/lung problems in pets?

Sounds like it could be kennel cough, which can become quite serious if left untreated. Your dog needs to be checked over by a vet.
