Bad tummies in 2 dogs

Both my dogs have had bad tummies intermittently over the past 3 weeks ish. One occasion of vomiting each, but the main problem is that they have very loose stools and they have been displaying symptoms that they are finding it a strain to "get it all out" as it were. It comes and goes every couple of days. I put them on rice with a bit of chicken for their next few meals after a bout.

I remember last year at around this time they both had funny tummies. Does anyone else's dog get this at this time of year? Ie, could it be cold-related or to do with the change in season? Is it likely to be something funny they're eating in the garden that only grows at this time of year? Tbh I haven't noticed them eating anything strange.

Both seem fine in themselves, just wondered what people thought. Might get them down the vets in the next week if it doesn't sort itself out.

Anyone? Had one of them sicking up again (bile) yesterday so back on the chicken and rice and fine again today.

Skint, and loathe to take them to the vet if it could be a common seasonal problem.

Not a seasonal problem, no. Could be lots of things, and really they need to be seen by a vet.

Watching with interest as 5 month old pup has quite extraordinary bowels too. 3 vet visits, change of food, and still no clearer what's causing it.

Both dogs much improved. Unable to get them to the vets because of the snow. Thank god because I'd be in a huge panic if they had gotten any worse. Still keeping an eye on the shite though.

BeerTricksPotter can you tell me more about your dog? How old? what symptoms etc? Our pup keeps hurtling from fine to diarrhea every 4 days or so, and it's starting to really worry me. He seems fine in himself, but then when he's had a couple of good days there's a marked change and he's suddenly so much bouncier.

Thanks for that. Ours is a right pig and eats everything he can get his chops around, so it's always been very hard to figure out if he's got the squits because of something he's eaten, or because he had an infection, or a food intolerance. However, he was getting ill even when he hadn't, to my knowledge, eaten anything dodgy.

We've changed food (to Wainwrights puppy) and he seemed to do well on it for a few days before the problem recurred. Have just had a full set of poo tests, which showed no giardia (vet's first guess) or worm problems, but high levels of Ecoli, so we're now putting him on antibiotics & probiotics to try and resolve that.

Never seen him pass blood, so I don't know if that's why the vets aren't talking about colitis and campylobacter, but obviously i'll mention it if the current plan doesnt' work out. Thanks for the advice.

So if a dog has been on the same food for a while (1 year), can they suddenly start reacting to it badly, eg, diarrohea?
