i think i may have found out why one of my dog has selective toddler hearing. he has very very hairy inner ears. so off to the vets next week to get his ears checked.
his brother has hair free inner ears.

yup - hairy ears are a veritable pitri dish for infections too...

although selctive toddler hearing may still be behavioural. sometimes what you say is never going to be as interesting as that other dog/ ball/ dead smelly thing....

what signs should i look for with infections? they dont smell, or look manky.

have been gently brushing the fur out of the ear canal. he doesnt seem to mind me 'clean' it.

smell is one, pain, inflammation - gak streaming out of it is usually a good sign.

generally though, if an ear looks ok, smells ok and the dog isn't showing pain when you touch it, it's ok...

usually you can see the dog shaking its head to one side and it does whiff a bit.
