Pre-puppy course: What do I need to ask?

We're going to have a pre-puppy session (bit like an ante-natal class but for puppy-to-be owners) with a local dog trainer soon and I'm wondering what things I need to ask/ learn from her?

What do you wish you'd known, before you got your puppy?

At the moment the main things I want help with are puppy-proofing house and garden, how to manage the first few days and then all the other stuff after that...basically everything!

She can also introduce her dog to my twin sons and give them more experience with a properly trained one - rather than their friends' dogs which are gorgeous but mostly untrained.

I would ask her how to choose a puppy with a good temperment. When you find out, could you come back and tell me? Grin

GrinWoodrose! We'v already picked a breeder who breeds for temperament (show dog lines). We'll have second choice of the males from the next litter - so I hope there are plenty of males.

But seriously, can anyone list the things they wish they'd known/ asked about before getting their puppy that the pre-puppy trainer might be able to ask?
