When grooming your Labrador?

Do you ever manage to comb the bit by their tail and not get a load of fur?. I mean I spent ages the other day trying to give him a good groom to reduce his molting but every time I comb the bit by his tail there is always more fur!. I mean how can that be why is he not bald? surely there cannot be a everlasting amount of lose fur there?

I am so glad it is not just me I thought I was doing it wrong. Amazingly I was badly mauled by a dog as a child and I had so many fears over getting a dog. Would I be able to trust him? know how to care for him? and so on and the only thing I dismissed as unimportant (the moulting) is the only thing that bugs me But he is worth it though

Which brushes do you use for your labradors ?
I have a chocolate that is always moulting and a black who doesn't as much but we don't seem to be able to get enough fur out iyswim

Oh yes hair, hair and more hair with extra dollop of hair by the tail that's true.

I use a Furminator which seems to be the most efficient on my Labs.

I don't really groom mine as they aren't that keen. We are lucky in that they love swimming and swim just about every day (or dip if it's a bit chilly) and that really helps clear out the dead fur and keep them nice and shiny.

Really frosty my Lab goes nuts at the sight of the comb it takes me ten minutes to calm him down enough to groom he loves it.

No, they really don't like it - they squirm away, put their ears back at that funny angle and roll over if they can. I've tried all sorts of brushes, mitts and combs but nothing seems to do it for them! Luckily they leap in the river over the road after every walk, and have a nice towel down and get into their snuggly bed in the utility room (with underfloor heating, and then spend the rest of the afternoon demanding their dinner - they are so spoilt!

They sound it My Lab would probably prefer the river to a groom mind. It just reminds you that it is not the breed but the personality

Might have to seek out this Furminator as all the other brushes i have used are rubbish

There does seem to be an everlasting fur supply down that end doesn't there.

I'm with frostyfingers. Trying to groom the dog is just a comedy exercise really. My lab is just the same, in the river or hosed down everyday after a walk. I reckon the rubbing down and all the shaking removes a fair old whack of that day's hair-to-be-shed.

My dog always has more hair to shed there, but that is because he makes it so blimmin hard for me to brush properly at that end. He always sits down prudishly on his bottom to keep me away. I think it is because touching a dogs rear end is a bit like staring too hard at a woman's breasts: to the dog, it makes you seem like a sexual predator.

I removed half my dog's total volume with a furminator at the weekend. I've got enough fur now to make a spare terrier.
