Tell me I'm not mad...

we've got a 2 year old collie. We have a 2.5 year old daughter and a baby due in 4 weeks. Just been offered a 5 month old collie pup as our friends are leaving the country at short notice and I am seriously considering taking her.

Am I mad?

You may well be.

Did you have your last collis as a puppy? ie have you had to cope with a puppy and a baby before?

Unless you have an awful lot of help I can see it being almost impossible to train a new puppy, exercise the dog you have already (these things should be done seperately) and deal with a toddler and a newborn in the winter.

Someone (probably everyone tbh) is going to suffer, make sure you only go with your head on this one.

What Wildy said.

you are mad - honestly completely and utterly barking. - don't do it

I feel for you. It is difficult to say no when you are being offered a furry bundle of lovliness on a plate.GrinHowever.....

I have a DS(8) and a DD(6) and a border collie (12.5). We are planning to get a border collie puppy and there are days when I think to myself "why are you doing this? Are you a masochist?".

Did you have your 2 yr old as a puppy? They are hard work! Mine were harder work than my children! I couldn't begin to contemplate how you would find the time to give a BC puppy the mental and physical stimulation it requires AND the training with a toddler and a newborn! Think with your head, not your heart and say no. The jump from 1 child to 2 is challenging enough. You really don't want to add an active fur baby into the mix!

Is your dh/dp at home a lot to do walkies and training? Is the puppy housetrained? Border collies are cute Smile. But hard work! (As are new babies and toddlers).

Mad.

lickey · 10/11/2010 20:44

Don't do it. I've ended up with 2 dogs and a puppy and I'd forgotten how bad the toilet training it (especially when they have diarrhoea) Collies need loads of excercise don't they especially a puppy.

You're absolutely mad, but I would probably do it. Blush
