I've been a dog owner for 7 months now am surprised and alarmed to find myself inexplicably drawn to the dog section in the calendar shops that are popping up at this time of year.

This morning I became seriously immersed in a black lab calendar compare and contrast session.

I also fingered a magnetic notelet pack with 'lab notes' on har har at a Christmas fair on Monday.

Is this a passing phase? Is resistance futile?

Resist. I don't have one and don't want one - although my parents love them and it is an easy christmas gift each year...perhaps mention them to the person who tends to buy you rubbish gifts each year? That way you get one and dispense with a bad gift? Wink

lol

I don't want one. Why would I want a giant picture of a dog that isn't mine up on the wall? I don't even have a picture of my own dog on the wall. Or the dc or dh for that matter.

and yet....

am strangely compelled by them.

i like a bit of an action shot, you know dog jumping over style.

gawd

it'll be dog doorstops and mugs next

You only know you've tipped over the edge when you flip through the months, going, 'Well, those ears are wrong... And that one's got a weird tail... None of these are as nice as mine...' Grin

Pity me. I get all the horrible calendars, plus a Fred Basset one every year.

Alouiseg · 10/11/2010 15:59

I'm so tempted to send Bulldog Christmas cards this year.

Resist resist resist

coatgate · 10/11/2010 16:01

I bought one for DD last Christmas - but I look at it all the time.

Slubberdegullion · 10/11/2010 16:06

ha ha

I knew I wasn't alone.

wildfig I did exactly that and then had thoughts in my head all round debehnams about how does one get into dog modelling?

We had a rather fantabulous Staffordshire Bull Terrier calendar last year and my Dp received a couple of staffy birthday cards, it's slippery slope!
My mum has a chihauhau and a great Dane, she gets a lot of Dane or chihauhau themed gifts Grin

i got a boxer dog 6 years ago. since then i have been given boxer figures, boxer mugs, boxer ley ring and a boxer calander every year, infact i have been given 2 some years. not quite sure why people ( mil and one friend) think i want to adorn my house with this tut just because i have a dog.

WkdSM · 10/11/2010 16:13

Samoyed calendar - yes every year!

Worse though - DH has a picture of our dog on his phone as the screensaver - and several more to show people (even when they have not asked). Note - no pictures of me.......

ethelina · 10/11/2010 16:17

Not me but MIL has Westie and Springer ones. In fact she has 3 westie ones this year all given at christmas by well-meaning grandchildren. She loves them all and has them hanging side by side in the kitchen. She even copies her info, dates etc onto each one. Smile

EdgarAirbombPoe · 10/11/2010 16:19

i have a even more breed specific Breed-club calendar with pictures of the years champions on it.

It's great as it has all the years shows on it too - that way I know where Mother is!

WoodRose · 10/11/2010 16:30

No calendar, but my dog is the screensaver on my PC and my mobile. I am ashamed to say that I have more framed photos of my dogs than my DC Blush. At least I don't own any clothing adorned with a border collie. That's a step too far down the slippery slope of doggie madness even for me!Grin

Slubberdegullion · 10/11/2010 17:02

You lot are making me laugh. I love ethelina's mother's triplicate westie calendars.

Ooh good point WoodRose. This is thread where you can confess to having a fleece with your dog on.

The calendar I bought with my own money is the Breed Rescue one. It's heart-rending. Sporadically, three times a day I point to it with a chewed item, and bellow the dog equivalent of the 'little starving children in Africa' speech.

Dogs do not care. Makes me feel slightly better, though.

Breed rescue calendar sounds lovely and sad all in one. I'd rather be given one of those than the poseur dogs ones in calendar club.

Am defo buying the Border Collie rescue Trust calendar for nearest and dearests this year because my dog has been chosen for September!!
First time my (ever so slightly unpredictable)efforts in photography have been recognised and I'm thrilled :)

LotteryWinnersOnAcid · 12/11/2010 14:35

I get a lot of staffy gifts. And general dog-themed gifts actually. Didn't mind having a staffy calendar. But I do not need staffy stationery complete with envelopes...
