question about kongs

I've read about people putting peanut butter inside of kongs, can i ask is it ordinary peanut butter, i.e tesco's?

Was worried about high fat content, salt etc also possible allergy to peanuts? Am i being stupid?

Can you tell i've just got a new puppy!

do you mind if I jump on this post as well? Our dogs have always had peanut butter but I've never thought of putting it in a kong

You have to get breed specific peanut butter!!! No only joking any peanut butter but obviously not asda's!!

I would stuff the kong with lower calorie food and then plug the end with the peanut butter so the dogs don't get too fat or just smear it on so they get the taste but not hge quantities of it.

Can I ask another question about kongs? I've heard that freezing things in the Kong works well, but I've also heard horror stories about giving dogs ice cubes (we gave our pup some ice and he loved it, but then I read some American threads on how it can cause bloat and stopped...) or does bloat only happen to hot dogs/on hot days?

Anyone know? Would be keen to do the frozen kong thing, but also keen to give the pup ice cubes sometimes as he loves really crunchy things.

blimey I've never heard of bloat with icecubes. I thought it happened if you fed to soon/after exercise.

I fed my pup loads of her kibble soaked and frozen in her kong(s). Kept her entertained foe ages.

We use Kongs and I used to stuff their dog food inside and 'seal' it with peanut butter. Dogs loved it and it kept them amused for ages.

Sadly cant do that now with loofas special diet, do stuff kong with his food without peanut butter though.

I have used peanut butter, just the regular stuff - I do what others do; stuff the kong with kibble then 'plug' with something scrummy. Most commonly these days just wet food. I wouldn't bother with the squeezy paste you can buy especially for kongs, if you were thinking about it at all. They smell vile and cost a fiver a pop, it's much cheaper to do it with peanut butter, cheese spread, wet foot, etc, but obviously when using 'human' food it is important to consider how much salt, sugar etc is in them and just use small amounts.

I read that if you stuff it with cheese / PB or banana (my dog's fave) and then freeze it it lasts them even longer. Must try it

Apples too....crunchy and hard for them to get out. Mine seem able to empty a kong in 2 mins flat

I use philadelphia or laughing cow and stuff it with biscuits - my dog loves it. Definitely don't bother with that special kong spray - you don't need it!

oh dear - my pooch cant get the stuffing out of the kong and it ends up honking under the sofa somewhere - mind you she is a bit thick generally ...
