arrrgh.

my parents were babysitting last night when dh and i went to the cinema.

when we came baqck my dad asked if we fed the dogs enough. errr yes! apparently they got into the kitchen and headed staight for their bag of food and went mad.

had to point out to dad that they are a lab x breed, think with their stomaches and will eat until they are sick then eat some more.

they are well fed, not fat, not skinny, with good coats.

feel a bit annoyed.

ach ignore them

my dog ate too quickly the other night, puked up and lay there eating his puke!

misdee · 31/10/2010 07:50

thats what one of my pups would do! he puked in his crate the other week as i scared him by drilling nearby. h ad to one arm wrestle to keep him away from the puke whilst clearing it up.

the things we do Grin

right now i am teaching one to leave dd4 pens alone. as he eats them. basically he eats anything. but loves to crunch anything plastic. i think he will one day end up at the vets having things removed from his stomach. like the x-rays you see in the papers of dogs who have eaten bras or plastic toys whole. hwe is a monster!

I know how you feel. MIL is convnced I neither feed nor walk my dogs.

This is all because when I lived close to her she never saw me walk my dog past her house. It didn't occur to her that maybe, jut maybe I walked in the other direction, you know, towards the park Hmm Angry

I don't know why but it gets me really riled. She also sends bits of left over meat just so she is 'sure they are getting something proper'.

misdee · 31/10/2010 22:02

lol dooinmecleanin, thats about right.

obviously my boys are half starved and not getting enough. yet they are growing extremely fast Hmm

Oh, got too labs here, never stop, ever. One just ate a pine cone, and when I picked up ones poo in the park, it contained 2 acorns.

I can remember my ex mother in laws dog Jilly who was a doberman getting into the dog biscuit bin she must of ate half of the bin its the size of a dust bin (the old ones). We did not know and Jilly came outside to us walking around the car we were cleaning there were fields all around with cows in and we could smell what we thought was muck. It turns out it was Jilly with her constant farting outside and when we looked at her she looked like a barrel with four thin legs. Once we found out it was funny her tummy made a funny noise all night. She was ok the next day. I then later on had a doberman/rotty cross we called her Jilly (as the old Jilly died and we lied the name) she too was just as much of a pain in the ass! She ate everything. Some breeds just want more and more.....

I clearly don't feed my dog because he was eating the settee tonight Angry

I want to get a new settee soon, but I need to make sure he isn't not going to eat it.
I do feed him enough food, honestly!

Joolyjoolyjoo · 09/11/2010 22:19

My mum was the worst for this. She was always asking me if I was sure I was feeding beagle-boy "properly". "Look- he's hungry!" she would say, lips pursed. "Are you sure he doesn't need fed?"

I am a vet. Apparently I am still unfit to know how to feed a dog that would eat his own bodyweight in just about anything if he was permitted Angry

frostyfingers · 10/11/2010 12:31

One of our labs got into the larder and ate an enormous amount of her dried food. She puked for days - when I took her to the vet he just said "ah, curryguts" don't worry, just make sure she drinks.

I have never seen so much stuff from one dog - the whole house stank of bleach for about a week - it didn't put her off wanting her dinner though, and my god did she make some stinky farts.

They don't have to be hungry to eat!

EdgarAirbombPoe · 10/11/2010 23:50

my dog wil steal if left long enough. she will also hunt and kill things, given the opportunity.

she gets 3 good meals a day.

she likes hunting animals.

she likes taking food.

it pleases her inner puppy.

bit like kids really, just cos they stuff themselves, doesn't mean you didn't feed them.

Ephiny · 19/11/2010 13:55

Some breeds just seem to have an insatiable appetite, labs definitely do. We have a Rottie and he goes crazy for food at every opportunity, anyone would think we were starving him.

When we first got him I made the mistake of increasing his food uptake a bit because 'he seems so hungry all the time' Blush, he actually got a bit overweight so we had to cut it back again. It does help with training when they're so greedy motivated by food/treats.

ICouldHaveWrittenThis · 19/11/2010 14:00

Some friends of my parents had a lab x that literally ate itself to death! :( :(
He'd got out one night and found a whole bag of out of date food and just never stopped eating.. poor thing.

nannynobnobs · 19/11/2010 14:02

We have a proper mongrel here, bit of everything dog. He will eat anything but raw onion and garlic. When I swept out under the fridge, he greedily ate a piece of grey, dusty, hairy old bread that had been there for ever I have seen him casting covetous eyes at DD2's playdoh too. And he is amply fed!

ItsJustMyOpinion · 19/11/2010 14:11

I have a 4 year old labrador, he will eat and eat and eat......and eat if he had his way. When he was a pup he would eat the furniture, luckily he has stopped doing that now tho, he just occasionaly chews my shoes. He will also eat DDs food that she drops. Our family and visitors know that if they bring any food with them then they have to eat it or put up out of his reach.

My poor dog gave himself the runs a couple of years ago when he ate a dozen raw eggs and the box they were in. He stank for a few days after that I can tell you.
