Sore paw - advice and name of pink disinfectant stuff?!

One of my dogs is sore around one of her claws. It's a bit pink/red but hasn't spread around the pad. I'm guessing it's a splinter that has become inflamed, she's washing it a lot and has been for the last few days.

Normally I'd take her to the vets but I'm really short of cash at the moment and it's £15 just for the consultation fee, so I have been treating it myself with TCP. I have a feeling the vet would probably just give me a disinfectant he has given me before when my other dog had a gash on his paw. It was pink and I think I diluted it with water and applied a couple of times a day - can anyone think what this stuff is called? I can't for the life of me remember but I know it's commonly used and thought I'd pick some up to try on this injury.

If it gets worse obviously I'll have to take her to the vet but it's not bothering her, she's not limping and is well in herself so want to try sorting it myself in the meantime.

That would be Hibiscrub I expect.

probably hibiscrub.

Hope it gets better soon.

Bathe the paw, make sure anything embedded is removed and see how she goes.

My old dog used to suffer with cut paws, we lived in an area that had lots of sharp flint around and he was forever cutting his paws. I kept a tube of germolene, some bandages and old socks and some micropore tape in stock and used to treat it myself.

If it doesnt clear up in a day or two take her to the vets.

Also, see if your Vet is willing for you to set up an account to be paid monthly? Many do this now. It is on my list of 'things to sort out' even though we are insured, things like cuts and sores soon mount up.

Yes Hibiscrub!

Thank you!

I think setting up an account to be paid monthly may well be tempting fate. Wink Although you're right, the little stuff - stuff under the insurance excess - does mount up. Will enquire when I'm next in there.

Thanks again.
