Sorry to pop this up again, but having lost two little pups in our practice this week with confirmed Parvo I just hope to catch a few more people.
Firstly please make sure you see the bitch, in one pups case the Mum was never seen, ask if she is vaccinated particularly if your are taking the pup before it has had any vaccinations. Please do not take home very young puppies one of these pups was only 5.5 weeks old, there are not just health benefits to staying with Mum, but also social benefits.
Then visit your vet and take their advice on vaccination of your puppy.
We are in the cosy home counties in what would be considered an affluent area - so not a classical area for Parvo.

If I can save even one family from the heart break I have witnessed in the last week this will be worthwhile.

oh no, how sad. Will take onboard what you have said.

Bumping it up again as we have now 3 dead puppies and another two sick puppies. All of these are confirmed Parvo.

Lizcat how dreadful for you, the owners and puppies.

Are the puppies coming from unvaccinated litters or not been vaccinated themselves?

Hi Lizcat, I have a rescue shelter in Spain and have seen on far too many occassions what parvo does to young animals. It lives for ages in soil etc. Have you been able to publise locally to make sure any area they have been is completely sterlised. Our local had to close for a week earlier this year for a deep clean after an especially strong strain. It makes me so angry to see them suffer from the affects of something so easily preventable.
