We are going to look at a litter of puppies next week but they will only be three weeks old. Does this seem too young ? I can find loads of info on what age a puppy should leave it's mum but none on when is it ok to go and choose one. Thanks everyone

I don't think thers a set age, at 3 weeks it will be difficult to fathom the pups personalities and even markings, but its nice to visit.

If you want to 'choose' though I would go back a few weeks later when they are more active.

The breeder will probably ask you to anyways but if you hold them please wash your hands first! I saw a very poorly pup recently who caught something because a potential owner had been handling other dogs before going to visit!

3 weeks is too young to choose, but you can still go and look and get a picture of what they look like. They will change and their personality will develop over the next few weeks.

We went to see our puppy (which we get next weekend) when she was days old, then week old, then 3 weeks then 6 weeks and it was only then that I narrowed it down to 2/3 from 7. Still havent made a final decision yet, but I will this week. I do know the breeder, she is a friend so that helps and she keeps me up to date.

I went to see my puppy when he was 5 weeks old. I already knew which one was mine as he was the only boy left!
I would have visited him every single week if I could have but unfortunately, a 100 mile journey limited us to that one visit and the journey to collect him.

5 weeks - then are the starting to develop their personalities and not so attached to mumas they would be at 3 weeks.
