dog cruelty

I was out for a lunchtime walk with my dog and saw another dog being mistreated - owner repeatedly kicking and hitting it, very aggressive and was swearing at and threatening the couple of people who tried to intervene (was by the main road and a couple of people slowed down and stopped).

I tried to follow in the hope of finding out where they live so I can report it to RSPCA/police, but was some distance behind and lost them (my dog was walking slowly and pulling a bit the other way because he didn't want to go that way). Is there anything at all I can do? Would reporting do any good? I can give a vague description, but around here 'black man with Staffie' doesn't really narrow things down much.

I am in tears at the thought of that poor little dog cowering and shaking in fear and ashamed of myself for not being able to do more. On some level I almost didn't want to catch up because I was scared (man was probably nearly twice my weight) he'd hurt me or my dog :(

TBH there isn't much you can do but I'd advise that you report to the area's Dog Warden, just in case. The descriprion of "Black man, X tall, approx X weight, with X coloured staffie, in X park, walking towards Y road" MIGHT just ring a bell with him.

Poor dog. :(

Next time - a camera in your pocket... Wink

Then come back to me - I have contacts who may be able to help in these circumstances.

Thanks Valhalla. I just rang the RSPCA cruelty reporting line, they took details but said there wasn't much they could do if there was no address or car licence plates etc. That's what I expected, but I guess it's at least supporting evidence if anyone else does report with more information. Will definitely try to get a photo if I see them again.
