Well, We Have Decided...

That in spite of recent dramas in our household, we are going to have a litter.

Not an easy decision at all, but things appear sorted with the dogs and I think it was all a storm in a teacup really. Now I am back in charge (as opposed to my very DH, who was never in charge even when he was meant to be... Grin ) all is going swimmingly. I really want another pup from Indi that I can show and I don't want to leave it any longer as we need to get her spayed really due to the phantoms. I hope I am not going against my better judgement due to recent personal goings on, but whatever happens I know I can ensure the pups good homes. I had passed my waiting list onto my friend when I didn't think I would be breeding any time soon, but they have been kind enough to pass people back. Smile

I have chosen a stud dog, one that is quite a risk as he is young and a total outcross. However, he has a wonderful, wonderful temprement, is beautifully put together and has great health tests results. He has also had an outstanding show career already.

This is him:

Here are a couple of video clips of Indi with her last litter::

Her ladyship is on day 5 of her season and we start ovulation testing next Friday. I am going to post at every step of the breeding, scanning, hopeful pregnancy and then whelping etc. for anyone who's interested and hopefully it will show what is involved in breeding 'properly'.

Oh wow - how fab!! My battery's almost gone but will enjoy your links tomorrow.

And I'll be in the front row for your stage-by-stage account, hon. Brill!

Oh, isnt he handsome.

Ponders whether Zac is sensible enough to introduce a puppy into the household (no, probably not!).

Midori

My sons and I were watching the puppy clips lots of times last night, becoming enraptured! Your dogs are gorgeous! We're meeting Margaret, the breeder you recommended to me in England, at half-term and will also see her current litter then too, although we won't be having one of those. But all these golden retriever puppy experiences are making us v excited about getting ours - probably next year now and DS2 - who was a bit reluctant, a few weeks ago, has decided that he really wants a puppy now too!

Good luck with your litter Smile

Is it tomorrow you start ovulation testing, Midori?

agree - the stud is gorgeous. and the pups...I want them all.

LOl @ Bella.

Tomorrow was the day we were supposed to start ovulation testing... However, due to the flipping post the test kit from the lab hasn't come. (my vet usually takes the blood and I send it to Idexx labs myself as they are more experienced at interpreting the results) I rang today for another, but I doubt it will get here in time.

Just waiting to see if stud dog owner has a spare. If not, I think I'll take her over on Saturday and we'll try her.

Bit of a pain really, as she may be ready and think she isn't, or may not be ready and think she is! She would have to be due to ovulate at the weekend when there is no post!

Hopefully everything else will go more smoothly...

Oooh yes - fingers crossed no more hiccups.

Where would you like me to leave my homework, Miss? Wink

midori1999 · 02/10/2010 22:49

Gah! Typically the test kit arrived after I went out yesterday afternoon. Blooming post... Hmm

Anyway, her ladyshoip has been to visit the stud dog. Much playing and flirting, but she doesn't seem quite ready yet. Almost, we had a tiny bit of 'behaviour' from her, but she wasn't overly keen to stand. She wasn't telling him off either though, the hussy! Grin

Anyway, we are off back tomorrow and if no luck then I'll get bloods done and sent off on Monday so we know exactly where we are. I'll still have to take her back Monday night, (unless they tie tomorrow) but I'd rather waste the money than have no clue what is going on.

I think you're doing all this to crank up the dramatic tension, Midori. Would be a bit less edge-of-your-seat if you tested her, she was ready, and the stud covered her straight off.

Don't worry though - I've still got a couple of fingernails left Grin
