My friend swears by hers and I have read really good reviews about them, came accross them here, at rock bottom price, when I was looking for some new claw clippers.

Thought it might be useful to someoneSmile.

Oh! I just bought one from Ebay at around the same price. TBH I was a bit dubious but it arrived a couple of days ago, is the real McCoy and is BRILLIANT!

Now, all I need is an explanation as to why my shorthaired GSD is moulting 10 times more than my long haired GSD! Confused

JaxTellersOldLady · 16/09/2010 09:30

cant help you with that one Valhalla, but after having a long hair GSD I was looking forward to having my short hair one... same amount of hair, just a bit shorter.

Furminators are the bomb! I love mine, it removes all the yakky undercoat that makes the dogs smelly.

Maybe on this board we should add "Dyson and Furminator" as essentials for owning a dog.

Ohhh thankyou I am going to order one :).
I am so fed up of black dog hairs everywhere I was cleaning the bath this morning and it was covered in dog hair -the bath FFS!

JaxTellersOldLady · 16/09/2010 10:53

comewhinewithme - my bathroom floor gets covered in dog hair, and no dogs are allowed upstairs... although have been a bit lax on that lately, but still. why???

they get everywhere.

Tortoise · 16/09/2010 11:03

ooh that looks good. Now, do i get large or medium? I have a Greyhound and a Jack Russell!

MeMudmagnet · 16/09/2010 13:42

How do furminators work?

I've got a big, hairy Leonberger and have been using a rake which removes alot of the undercoat. Are they much more effective?

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 16/09/2010 13:44

They are supposed to be amazing, hence the normally very hefty price tag of £40Shock.

Though tbh I don't think anyone pays that much for them.

My friend says it is the best thing ever and I have just brought one for my sil.

I bought one a few weeks ago from ebay and paid around £6. Brilliant! My dogs even love be 'furminated'! WHen they see it they rush up to me and assume the position Grin.

I bought a small one as I have Jack Russells, though my friends husband bought a large one for their JR!

PurpleFrog · 16/09/2010 15:31

I had a look at Furminator's website last night. It looks like these ones are the older model - they now appear to be marketing different ones for long-haired and short-haired dogs. I guess that is why they are so cheap!

scurryfunge · 16/09/2010 15:38

Just ordered one. Thanks for the tip.

vjg13 · 16/09/2010 18:30

Thanks, ordered one for my mega shedding cream lurcher Smile

Tortoise · 16/09/2010 19:05

Think i will just go for the large one. Hopefully will be ok for JRT as well as my Grey.

Labradorlover · 16/09/2010 19:15

Yellow lab currently shedding so much I'm suprised he's not bald....
Currently use a horse's rubber curry comb which gets loads of hair off him. I could groom all day and still have hair coming out.
Are the furminators really that much better?

Also any ideas about best vacuum?
My dyson animal is about to die, and I can't say it's ever sucked up all the black and yellow hair

raindroprhyme · 16/09/2010 21:19

We just had our dyson serviced.
Phoned the number on it and a lovely man came and took it all to pieces and put new filters in and made it all shiny and new looking.
It is as good as new.

We have a husky who you can't furminater well you can but it is pointless.
So our dyson gets a battering but would def reccomend gettign the dyson man to come and visit.
Cheaper than a new hoover.

JaxTellersOldLady · 17/09/2010 07:36

thanks rain - didnt know the dyson people came and serviced it. Mine could do with a good sort out, after lots of dog hair.

GingerbreadWoman · 17/09/2010 21:28

I got one for my GSD and it is ACE!!!!

oxocube · 18/09/2010 06:56

raindrop, have just clicked on your link Shock. I thought my Golden Retriever was bad when it comes to molting but this is incredible Grin

raindroprhyme · 18/09/2010 13:03

it is ridiculous, apparently you can spin it into wool and knit jumpers. Cosy!

they get really bad twice a year and pretty much renew their whole coat. The birds round here love it and fly down to steal it for their nest everytime we brush him.

LaRagazzaInglese · 24/09/2010 12:41

Would this work on a short haired chihuahua?, she's very small obviously (see profile photos :) )

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 24/09/2010 13:01

Yup, just get a medium or a small Smile.

She is gorgeous btw.
