Puppy with sore leg.

Took my 11 week old Bichon to the vet yesterday as she fell awkwardly off our back step and hurt her leg she spent most of the day on the sofa, yelping every time she moved awkwardly. Could tell she was unhappy, so I took food and water to her and carried her outside to the toilet.

Vet gave her an injection and said to keep an eye on her, it might be fractured or it might just be a sprain.

She's much happier today, still limping a bit but is starting to weight bare more, is no longer yelping and is playing happily on the sofa.

Do I carry on taking food to her and carrying her out to the toilet? I'm going to keep lifting her off and on the sofa for a week or so, but should I let her do everything else as normal?

She's probably feeling better because of the drugs - keep a very close eye on her, don't let her do too much and get her straight back to the vet if she worsens.

How long do the drugs take to get into the system? She was still in pain last night after her injection, it wasn't until about 14 hours later that she picked up, do they take that long to work?!

Depends on the drug, smallships. Your vet has given her the least invasive treatment to try to rule out the simplest explanation (a sprain) but she could well have a fracture. What you're watching for now is any deterioriaton once the drugs wear off - that might suggest it is more likely to be a fracture. The big danger is that she feels better due to the drugs and overdoes it - especially as she is a pup.

Best bet is to call the vet - they won't mind, honest - and ask what to look for.
