I posted a little while ago, asking for breed suggestions for a family dog that would be good with DD and my v. nervous DS.
Well, after browsing through ads, we saw a dog we liked the sound of, went to meet her and agreed to buying her.
We then had a weeks holiday (during which time we had SOOOO many doubts / nerves), so her previous owner held her for us. Picked her up on Saturday and so far she (and my DS) seem to have settled nicely.
We were expecting a few accidents (she's had one-our fault for not realising quick enough what she wanted!) and a lot of noise at night (she whimpered for a couple of minutes the first couple of nights and then settled for the whole night!), but so far she's exceeded our expectations.
DS has stroked her (huge breakthrough for him) and is so amused by her running around / playing.................just wanted to share, and thank everybody for their advice.

That is lovely to know. What kind of dog did you get, and where is the photo (stamps foot impatiently)?

comtessa · 07/09/2010 10:19

Is she a puppy or a mature dog?

keepeverybodyhappy · 07/09/2010 20:28

She's a chocolate labrador. She's 2 1/2 years old. She's a bit over weight (her last owners didn't have time for her :( ), but a friend of my DH is a dog nutritionist and has advised on food, amount of it and plenty of excercise.
She's adorable Grin

Really happy for you. So glad it's working out well but I want to see the picture and the link won't open.

Our pup cured ds2 of his dog nerves. Best thing we ever did :o

Labs are people dogs and like to be with people. They have great personalities and two and half is a great age - still some puppy madness. Just be aware that you might be in a honeymoon period - just like toddlers expect some testing behavior - not coming when called, chewing perhaps.

And know this - choc labs - eat everything and anything - passports, nurofen, dead animals, alive animals, loaves of bread

Alouiseg-my DS has astounded us all :)
He's held her lead, stroked her back and today even touched her near her mouth.......a huge step for him.
claricebeansmum-she is still quite playful, but only when encouraged. So when DS is around she's laid back but when DD comes in she gets her playing......best of both worlds!! She does have some issues that we knew about when we agreed to buying her (pulling on the lead / being over zealous with smaller dogs.....but these are all things that we're happy to sort out. We're just so pleased that she's such a nice person :)
Still laughing at the list of choc lab meals-Really?? Passports? Nurofen?
I can see how she's gotten to be over weight-her big brown eyes are hard to resist. How can a dog change their expression so readily, with just the tilt of their head!!

Love labs. Really want to get a chocolate lab at some point as has yellow lab when I was growing up, and it would feel wrong to get another yellow, somehow!
If only I could perfect the look that labs can do, maybe then my DH would agree to a dog sooner...

Oooh! She's gorgeous :o. I just met a 15 week old black lab on a walk and could happily have picked her up and brought her home :)
