Morning and welcome.

To anyone new this is the Happy Place Café, all food and drink served here is calorie free. Everyone is welcome.

There are some people who have been here for literally years and others are newer.

The staff are me, obviously, Florence a French pastry chef who is married to Fernando the cocktail waiter (no one knows where Fernando is from so we suspect the marriage was about visas).

In a previous incarnation one of the regulars was Tilly (RIP) who brought a sparkling light in to the café along with a lemur named Leo.

Leo runs a dog wash (Tilly had a golden retriever and her family agreed to the dog wash as a tribute) but as there are rarely and dogs around he will wash anything, his other interests are goats and eggs. He spends every morning cooking eggs.

Outside the café is seating and a water feature, the water feature becomes a swimming pool in summer and an ice rink in winter. There is also a petting zoo.

Other residents are the kittenbees who are kittens the size of a bee with wings, they are very gentle but like to nibble anything sweet. Please do not give them alcohol.

Outside is where their larger cousins the bumblecats live, they are about the size of a fist and a lot more feisty than the kittenbees.

There is normally a daily special for breakfast and sometimes there is a pack up / bait / packed lunch.

Now to breakfast.

I thought a little trip to Germany would fit this morning so Florence is making bread rolls, soft and crusty, Leo is baking / frying / boiling eggs and Fernando is serving Apfelkorn.

I put out a selection of cooked meats, cheeses, jam, nutella, marmalade and if you want that abomination that people wither love or hate, it is in a locked box in the garden, far from the café, that is where it is to be consumed.

Actually I watched a vid from 'Atomic Shrimp' the other day that featured the brown paste added to warm milk.

I think I will just have something light for now so fruit and coffee please @sashh .

I am on late shifts for the next week or two so I will miss breakfast 😦

ScottBakula · 16/06/2025 03:03

Well despite the fact that I don't need to be up for 7 hours I am wide awake and have been for a while.

I have been topping up my batch cooking , there is meat or veggi stuff , curry's, stir fry , chilli , wrap fillings , and other things.

If anyone wants lunch to go help yourself.

Morning.

Wow, well done on the batch cooking. The arthritis stops me doing a true batch.

Fruit for breakfast? Good idea, melon, mango, bananas, berries and yoghurt of course.

Florence is making fruit muffins with the berries and Fernando has green and white tea.

Leo is making scotch eggs for a pack up, I'll put some coleslaw in a tub to eat on the side.

Ooh some fruit and yoghurt and a muffin for me please - sounds delicious!

@ScottBakulathat is very impressive, especially for 3am!

sashh · 16/06/2025 08:25

@MrsRandallFraser How is baby Leo? Is he sleeping through.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 16/06/2025 11:45

@sashh my buggered hip is why I do batch cooking ( plus the stupid hrs I work ) .
I sit down at my dinning table and chop up all the veg first , then mix the marinades, then cut up the meat .
I have got several trays ( the type you get in cafes ) that each group go on so that there isn't to much walking back and forth.
So the only time I am stood up os when I am actually cooking.

It takes me flaming ages but it means that for the week or longer all I have is do is heat up what ever I fancy .

@MrsRandallFraser I didn't do it all at 3am , the things on my (wooden) table , I finished at about 1am . The rest is what I cooked last weekend .

Fruit and scotch eggs sound like a lovely lunch .

MrsRandallFraser · 16/06/2025 20:39

@sashhhe’s good thank you! The sleeping through is hit and miss, sometimes he does, sometimes we get a random wake up. He does give us plenty of sleep though so no complaints here

sashh · 17/06/2025 05:47

Morning.

Well after our trip to South America I think we need something British and warming. So I think porridge, a selection of fruit and honey.

Florence is making some morning rolls, Leo is frying eggs to go in the rolls and Fernando is serving whisky.

I'll leave out some pack up, pork pie, mustard, cheese and some of Florence's rolls and a few pickled onions.

The pack up sounds great @sashh can I have a bit of Branston you please.

sashh · 18/06/2025 06:37

Morning.

Well that was an interesting night. I had a dream, I woke up and thought, "this would make a great story, I must remember it" and guess what? Yep can't remember any of it.

So this morning I'm making 'bacon and tomato', I make this IRL. Bacon fried until it is crisp, then I add fresh chopped tomato, cook for a couple of mins and then add boiling water.

Florence is making rye bread to mop up the tomatoes and Fernando is making a batch of Bloody Mary.

Leo is making quiche Loraine for a pack up, I'll add some coleslaw and some fruit for pudding.

MrsRandallFraser · 18/06/2025 08:25

Oh that sounds absolutely delicious! I might have to try making this one day soon.

My dad had a Saturday morning Bloody Mary tradition, so even though it’s not Saturday, I’ll absolutely have one today.

sashh · 18/06/2025 09:53

Hands over a bloody Mary.

Morning.

Sorry for the late start.

I'm feeling nostalgic so I'm going to make one of my mother's dishes, milk cheese on toast.

Basically instead of the usual cheese on toast you get a thick cheese sauce.

Florence is making croissants, Fernando has fruit beers and Leo is making convent eggs.

For pack up I'm making ham and egg sandwiches with a side of crisps and a pot of sliced mango and melon.

Cheese sauce on toast ? Perhaps a bit messy but I will give it a go please @sashh

Can I have a pack up too, I'm working until 10.30 tonight 😞

sashh · 19/06/2025 11:07

On its way @ScottBakula

MinnieMountain · 19/06/2025 13:54

Does it count as needing a pack up if I walk to the cafe and back to my home office @sashh ? Sounds delicious.

I’ll just flop for a bit.

ScottBakula · 19/06/2025 15:53

@MinnieMountain , I recon it does , it's packed up and doesn't know where it is going. I don't think it will be disappointed at not been eaten at the beach 😃

ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 20/06/2025 03:43

My feet are swollen so i will take a bag of ice with breakfast please

sashh · 20/06/2025 04:31

Morning.

Well it looks like it will be another warm one so I think smoothies are in order. Florence is making lemon tarts and Fernando has some vodka to add to the smoothies.

Leo is making huevos rancheros, I'll put some in a microwavable dish for anyone who wants a pack up.

@ImDoneOnceAndForAll ice on its way.
