Morning and welcome.

To anyone new this is the Happy Place Café, all food and drink served here is calorie free. Everyone is welcome.

There are some people who have been here for literally years and others are newer.

The staff are me, obviously, Florence a French pastry chef who is married to Fernando the cocktail waiter (no one knows where Fernando is from so we suspect the marriage was about visas).

In a previous incarnation one of the regulars was Tilly (RIP) who brought a sparkling light in to the café along with a lemur named Leo.

Leo runs a dog wash (Tilly had a golden retriever and her family agreed to the dog wash as a tribute) but as there are rarely and dogs around he will wash anything, his other interests are goats and eggs. He spends every morning cooking eggs.

Outside the café is seating and a water feature, the water feature becomes a swimming pool in summer and an ice rink in winter. There is also a petting zoo.

Other residents are the kittenbees who are kittens the size of a bee with wings, they are very gentle but like to nibble anything sweet. Please do not give them alcohol.

Outside is where their larger cousins the bumblecats live, they are about the size of a fist and a lot more feisty than the kittenbees.

There is normally a daily special for breakfast and sometimes there is a pack up / bait / packed lunch.

Now to breakfast.

I thought a little trip to Germany would fit this morning so Florence is making bread rolls, soft and crusty, Leo is baking / frying / boiling eggs and Fernando is serving Apfelkorn.

I put out a selection of cooked meats, cheeses, jam, nutella, marmalade and if you want that abomination that people wither love or hate, it is in a locked box in the garden, far from the café, that is where it is to be consumed.

Actually I watched a vid from 'Atomic Shrimp' the other day that featured the brown paste added to warm milk.

Oh I hope you are feeling better now @sashh .

I'm on odd shifts atm so I'm all over the place timewise.

Can you ask Leo to make me a thick omelette and Florence to make a couple of crusty cobs.
I need food I can eat on the go for the next few days.

sashh · 31/05/2025 02:13

Morning.

Feeling much better today thank you guys. And as this is a virtual café I won't need to stay away for 24 hours.

@MrsRandallFraser cross your fingers it might not be a fluke. According to my mother I was already sleeping through in the maternity home.

@ScottBakula I'll make up some anglicised bento boxes with wraps, cheese, eggs, fruit and a little bit of cake for you to take on shift.

For breakfast I think we shall head tot he Faroe Islands. Florence is making a selection of breads, I'll put out a selection of fruits and some smoked salmon with homemade jam (to put on the bread not the salmon).

Fernando is serving aquavit and of course Leo is making eggs.

Morning!

I’ll take a some smoked salmon and some eggs, sounds lovely.

@sashhunfortunately it may have been a fluke as we’re on our second wake up but he’s cute so I don’t mind. Glad you’re feeling better!

sashh · 31/05/2025 08:09

That's a shame @MrsRandallFraser I hope he starts sleeping through soon. Salmon and eggs on its way.

Morning, although it is almost afternoon.

I hope all are well and I think I'll skip breakfast and just make lunch. Florence is making quiche with Leo's 'help' so I'll put out some salad, coleslaw and pickled onions.

Fernando is serving beer.

Afternoon!

That sounds like a perfect picky lunch! We had another uninterrupted night of sleep which was amazing.

ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 01/06/2025 14:50

Oooh that lunch sounds lovely

Hope everyone is well

sashh · 02/06/2025 02:26

Morning.

I'm glad people enjoyed lunch. And well done to baby Leo.

OK for breakfast lets try Spain.

Florence is baking some lovely bread to tostada con Tomate and I'll add on some Jamon. Then she is going to make churros.

Leo is of course making pinch de tortilla.

Fernando is pouring sangria.

OP posts:
MrsRandallFraser · 02/06/2025 03:46

Churros for breakfast, what a treat! As you can tell the sleeping through is very hit and miss but I’m glad to be awake for this loving breakfast today.

sashh · 02/06/2025 04:33

Aw baby Leo is trying his best.

tattoonewbie · 02/06/2025 06:11

Morning. Sangria and some tomato toast please!
Hope everyone is ok. I've had a better run of (admittedly painkiller filled ) sleep of late but wide awake today !

sashh · 02/06/2025 08:49

On its way @tattoonewbie

Delicious thank you

sashh · 03/06/2025 06:58

Morning. IRL I woke up to a blistering attack on facebook so I'm feeling a little bruised.

So I'm making beans on toast and that's it. Leo will obviously supply you with eggs, Florence is making brioche, Fernando is serving bucks fizz and I'm going to sit outside under a heated blanket.

sashh · 04/06/2025 05:30

Morning.

Another quiet day, I hope baby Leo is sleeping through.

Right lets have a little trip to France for coffee, croissants from Florence and some apricot jam.

Leo is making rolled Japanese style omelettes to pack up for later.

Fernando is pouring cognac.

Morning.

I'm going to hand over to F and F and take a walk with Leo.

MrsRandallFraser · 05/06/2025 05:07

Morning!

We’ve had a few uninterrupted nights slee now including last night so we’re only on our first wake up! I’ll pop the kettle on for some tea and grab some toast. Hope you and Leo enjoyed your walk.

MinnieMountain · 05/06/2025 05:25

Morning

I’m going to put some extra strong coffee on. I woke up waay too early, so I’ve already done an hour of work.

I fancy pancakes, so I’ll get those started. Any preferences for toppings?

ScottBakula · 05/06/2025 14:12

@sashh I am sorry someone had a go at you on FB , keyboard warriors are hateful at times.

I have been swapping between shifts 7am - 6pm and 10am- 9pm it's not doing me any good at all !

@MrsRandallFraser I am glas baby Leo is sleeping better , hopefully he will keep it up.

@MinnieMountain is there any pancake mix left ? I like them as nature intended, with a light sprinkle of sugar and healthy squeeze of lemon juice
.

MinnieMountain · 05/06/2025 14:55

I’m sure I can get the pan out again @ScottBakula . I agree that is the perfect topping. Caster or granulated?

Can I tempt anyone with a hot chocolate with alcohol given the unseasonably cold weather?

How are you doing @sashh ? People can be horrible.

ScottBakula · 05/06/2025 17:22

Ooh thankyou @MinnieMountain , castor sugar please .

Can I have a hot chocolate too but you'd better hold the booze I am at work 🙁.
It's a lot cooler yoday which I can cope with but it's absolutely thrown it down a few times today.

I think the ducks will want umbrellas soon !

sashh · 06/06/2025 06:22

Morning.

Thanks @ScottBakula and @MinnieMountain for the good wishes, have you been watching the fun? I think it is worth taking popcorn to.

@MrsRandallFraser I hope you and baby Leo are both still asleep.

OK breakfast, I think a Dutch / German type breakfast will be fine today. Leo is boiling eggs, Florence is making crusty bread rolls I set out a selection of cheeses and hams with a few jams. If you want to spoil it with 'that stuff' you know where it is.

Fernando is serving fruit beer.

ScottBakula · 06/06/2025 07:57

Good morning @sashh , I'm not on fb anymore due to the idiots, what's occurring?

Can I have a pack up with bread cheese and ham please and if there is any pickled beetroot going can u have some too.

sashh · 06/06/2025 08:17

Morning all!

Pleased to report this is the first time we’re waking up! We seem to have ditched the 3am feeding in favour of a 5am one which is much nicer.

Hope everyone’s ok, I’ll pop the kettle on. Supposed to be a very rainy day here so I’ll go curl up next to the fire.
