The Happy Place Café and Tilly's dog wash is still open.

Morning and welcome.

To anyone new this is the Happy Place Café, all food and drink served here is calorie free. Everyone is welcome.

There are some people who have been here for literally years and others are newer.

The staff are me, obviously, Florence a French pastry chef who is married to Fernando the cocktail waiter (no one knows where Fernando is from so we suspect the marriage was about visas).

In a previous incarnation one of the regulars was Tilly (RIP) who brought a sparkling light in to the café along with a lemur named Leo.

Leo runs a dog wash (Tilly had a golden retriever and her family agreed to the dog wash as a tribute) but as there are rarely and dogs around he will wash anything, his other interests are goats and eggs. He spends every morning cooking eggs.

Outside the café is seating and a water feature, the water feature becomes a swimming pool in summer and an ice rink in winter. There is also a petting zoo.

Other residents are the kittenbees who are kittens the size of a bee with wings, they are very gentle but like to nibble anything sweet. Please do not give them alcohol.

Outside is where their larger cousins the bumblecats live, they are about the size of a fist and a lot more feisty than the kittenbees.

There is normally a daily special for breakfast and sometimes there is a pack up / bait / packed lunch.

Now to breakfast.

I thought a little trip to Germany would fit this morning so Florence is making bread rolls, soft and crusty, Leo is baking / frying / boiling eggs and Fernando is serving Apfelkorn.

I put out a selection of cooked meats, cheeses, jam, nutella, marmalade and if you want that abomination that people wither love or hate, it is in a locked box in the garden, far from the café, that is where it is to be consumed.

Actually I watched a vid from 'Atomic Shrimp' the other day that featured the brown paste added to warm milk.

Oh no @ImDoneOnceAndForAll how about some honey and hot water?

In RL been having Lemon, Ginger & Honey…
Its actually rather refreshing

tattoonewbie · 09/05/2025 03:52

Morning all. Pain and snoring by DH forces me awake again. I'd blimmin love a Buck's Fizz (and a coffee too if not too greedy- decaf because you never know if I'll sleep again !) and eggs and home made bread sound lush.
Hope the kitten bees soothe Leo (the baby not the pope- he'll be busy ).

MrsRandallFraser · 09/05/2025 04:32

Morning! All settled in for 4am feeding. A very exciting day for baby Leo with the new pope deciding to pick his name (he slept through the whole thing of course). I hope Leo the Lemur was equally thrilled.

Eggs on toast with Buck’s Fizz sounds delightful, thank you!

I hope you don’t feel too rough @ImDoneOnceAndForAll

sashh · 09/05/2025 05:21

Welcome all, I'll be over with bucks fizz and coffees in a min.

Morning all

It's nice to have a baby here. My elderly cat is feeling cuddly, so I’ve brought her along. She promises to leave the kitten bees alone.

Could I have bucks fizz please @sashh ? I’ll help myself to kedgeree later.

sashh · 09/05/2025 09:55

@MinnieMountainyou wouldn’t say that if you heard him at 9/10pm at night 🤣 luckily he barely opens his eyes at 4am so he’s safe to bring here - wouldn’t want him scaring the kittenbees with all the noise he can make.

I wasn’t sure if the cafe was open on Saturdays but we thought we’d drop in and take a look anyway.

MinnieMountain · 10/05/2025 05:59

I’m sure I wouldn’t @MrsRandallFraser 😁 The cafe is always open. We tend to help ourselves to leftovers if @sashh isn’t around.

I’ll put the coffee on.

sashh · 10/05/2025 06:49

Morning. @MinnieMountain and @MrsRandallFraser glad to see you make yourselves at home.

@MrsRandallFraser I'm not sure Leo would be so loud in here, there is a kind of magic, the food has no calories and we could meet up here in Covid.

I feel we need a new Leo here so I'm playing 'the show must go on' by Leo Sayer.

Now breakfast, I think a trip to Morocco. Msemen, Baghrir, Jben and I'll get Florence to make some nice bread for honey and jam, Fernando has some Moroccan wine.

Leo is currently washing the goats but I'm sure he will be back to make eggs soon.

Morning all. Awake early here again. Bread and honey sounds great.
Do goats do cuddles ?! I bet they're a bit too...jumpy so I'll have the kitten bees to soothe my headache please

sashh · 10/05/2025 07:33

@tattoonewbie they are pygmy goats so quite cuddly and when Leo (GL - goat Leo) is around they have no choice.

MinnieMountain · 10/05/2025 07:37

Could I have toast and honey please? I’ve got a cold.

The pack ups during Covid were amazing too. Often this felt like the only sane place.

MrsRandallFraser · 10/05/2025 08:18

Well I thought the calorie free food was amazing but a place where babies cries aren’t loud…incredible!

Toast and honey sounds lovely. I think I’m going to need lots of tea today as well. We never have too many wakeups over here but for some reason I feel exhausted this morning.

sashh · 10/05/2025 08:39

Toast and honey all round, oh and when I said 'goat Leo' obviously I mean Lemur Leo.

OP posts:
ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 11/05/2025 01:23

Oh toast and Honey sounds nice

Covid has ruined me the last 24 hours, feeling ill is an understatement

MrsRandallFraser · 11/05/2025 03:59

Oh that’s so rubbish @ImDoneOnceAndForAll, I’ll put the kettle on, you need some tea as well!

I thought I was coming alone today as I woke up before the baby, but I’ve brought him along whilst he’s still asleep.

sashh · 11/05/2025 04:23

A place with kittenbees and calorie free food was the only sane place? I think that sums up Covid.

Anyway

Morning.

Today I think we should head for Lithuania. Now a lot of breakfast recipes are made with farmer's cheese, so if you are lactose intolerant, stick to the breads and the jams.

Florence is making black rye bread and a selection of pastries, the main ev a variety of pancakes the first ones are made with farmer's cheese then yeast pancakes kafir pancakes and finally grated apple.

Farmers cheese dumplings and semolina porridge.

Leo is of course insisting on eggs going with everything and Fernando is serving mead cocktails, which I'm sure will go well if you have a cold.

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 11/05/2025 06:00

It certainly does @sashh .

Could I try the dumplings please?

I hope you feel better soon @ImDoneOnceAndForAll . Tuck a blanket around and enjoy the early morning.

tattoonewbie · 11/05/2025 22:49

Missed you this morning 2.30 as I flipped around like a fish in a net
Not hopeful tonight will be any better but if there's rye bread left, I've heard it toasts up a treat x

ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 12/05/2025 00:25

The food always sounds so much better here than what i have in real life

That combined with Leo, Fernando, Florence, The bumble cats and The Kittenbee’s could it get much better

MrsRandallFraser · 12/05/2025 02:33

An earlier than usual wake up for us today, which probably means there’ll be another one later on.

I don’t really mind though as it’s just started to rain, so I get to enjoy the sound of that whilst I’m all cosy inside :)

sashh · 12/05/2025 03:10

Morning.

Well what shall we have today? Eggs obviously, otherwise Leo will flounce so I've told him to make Japanese rolled omelettes, I'll make rice and grilled fish.

Fernand is making Miso soup with a kick and Florence is making croissants for those who don't want Japanese food first thing.

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 12/05/2025 04:58

Morning

My cold keeps on waking me up.

Could I have a rolled omelette and some of the miso soup please?Hopefully that will blast through my cold.

DS starts his SATs today. I’ll be glad when the blasted things are over.

Spring rain is lovely isn’t it @MrsRandallFraser ?

sashh · 12/05/2025 05:34

@MinnieMountain take a seat I'll bring them over.

I quite like rain, but I LOVE a thunderstorm.

OP posts:
MrsRandallFraser · 12/05/2025 08:01

Sounds delicious! An omelette and soup for me too!

@MinnieMountain good luck to DS this week!
