Morning and welcome.

To anyone new this is the Happy Place Café, all food and drink served here is calorie free. Everyone is welcome.

There are some people who have been here for literally years and others are newer.

The staff are me, obviously, Florence a French pastry chef who is married to Fernando the cocktail waiter (no one knows where Fernando is from so we suspect the marriage was about visas).

In a previous incarnation one of the regulars was Tilly (RIP) who brought a sparkling light in to the café along with a lemur named Leo.

Leo runs a dog wash (Tilly had a golden retriever and her family agreed to the dog wash as a tribute) but as there are rarely and dogs around he will wash anything, his other interests are goats and eggs. He spends every morning cooking eggs.

Outside the café is seating and a water feature, the water feature becomes a swimming pool in summer and an ice rink in winter. There is also a petting zoo.

Other residents are the kittenbees who are kittens the size of a bee with wings, they are very gentle but like to nibble anything sweet. Please do not give them alcohol.

Outside is where their larger cousins the bumblecats live, they are about the size of a fist and a lot more feisty than the kittenbees.

There is normally a daily special for breakfast and sometimes there is a pack up / bait / packed lunch.

Now to breakfast.

I thought a little trip to Germany would fit this morning so Florence is making bread rolls, soft and crusty, Leo is baking / frying / boiling eggs and Fernando is serving Apfelkorn.

I put out a selection of cooked meats, cheeses, jam, nutella, marmalade and if you want that abomination that people wither love or hate, it is in a locked box in the garden, far from the café, that is where it is to be consumed.

Actually I watched a vid from 'Atomic Shrimp' the other day that featured the brown paste added to warm milk.

On its way @ScottBakula

Morning.

Well it looks like we are having a warm spell so I think a simple cold breakfast that can be taken outside if you want.

So Leo is hard boiling eggs, I'll put out a selection of cold meats, cheeses, slices of cucumber, cherry tomatoes and spreads / jams.

Florence is making bread and croissants, Fernando is making fruit cocktails.

ScottBakula · 29/04/2025 15:20

That sounds perfect for me @sashh
Irl I am currently sat outside at work and have just finished my lunch.
It's a pleasant way to spend half a hr except the low flying helicopters and busy main road 30 yards away

sashh · 30/04/2025 07:36

Morning.

Well as it is warm again I'm going to do something I rarely do, I'm going to keep the same breakfast on the menu for a second day. I think I'll get Leo to make some mini quiche in case anyone wants to take this as a pack up.

Morning.

Well another hot day so I feel something light so toasties and jaffles. Leo claims you need an egg on top of a toastie, I'm telling him he can put eggs in some of them.

Florence is making Normandy apple tart and Ferando is serving Belgian fruit beer.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 01/05/2025 09:16

Can I have the clasice cheese and ham toastie please @sashh .
I am not sure a egg will work on it but some scrabbled eggs with it would be nice.

I don't think I have had Normandy apple tart before , can I try a small slice please.

sashh · 02/05/2025 06:27

Morning.
@ScottBakula I hope you enjoyed yesterday's breakfast.

It looks nice and sunny again so I think a pack up breakfast / brunch / lunch.

Hard boiled eggs from Leo obviously, cheese sandwiches, pickles, bacon and egg tartlets and crispy chicken wings.

Florence is making a selection of pastries and Fernando is putting mini bottles of champagne in the picnic baskets.

I did very much thankyou @sashh

I have a real craving for rhubarb crumble, the proper sharp chunks , not the insipid sweet mush, can you ask Florence to make me some please.

sashh · 03/05/2025 02:11

Morning.

@ScottBakula well I originate near the rhubarb triangle so I'll buy in some of the forced stuff, you want a bit of a tang don't you? IRL memories of a stick of rhubarb and a cup with sugar in.

Well that's Florence busy but we need something light for breakfast if we are having crumble later so I think yoghurt, lassi, smoothies and fresh fruit, Fernando is making fruit cocktails and Leo is, well guess what Leo is cooking.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 03/05/2025 15:36

That's perfect thankyou @sashh
I also loved dipping rhubarb in sugar that my granddad had grown it was picked , washed and dipped within 5 minutes, now that's fresh !

Yoghurt and fruit is always a winner with me , can I have raspberries and blueberries please

sashh · 04/05/2025 05:18

Morning.

Raspberries and blueberries? On their own?

I'll see what Florence can do with something interesting with them, maybe with some walnuts too.

Leo is making cheese soufflés and Fernando is making blueberry gin.

Morning.

Well breakfast has been a bit 'samey' for a couple of days so let's head for Malta.

Florence is making pastizzi with various fillings, tuna ftira (also suitable for a pack up). A selection of fruit, melons, nectarines, apricots and plums.

Leo is delighted to discover Froġa Tat-Tarja, a vermicelli omelette he's going to make it with sausages.

Fernando is making Bajtra liqueur cocktails.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 05/05/2025 23:20

I have never heard of pastizzi so looked it up and apparently curried peas is a popular filling , I like the sound of that .
Can I have a couple in a pack up please @sashh

sashh · 06/05/2025 01:37

Of course you can. You seem to be my only regular at the moment so I'm going to say I will cook what ever you want (as long as it includes egg for Leo to cook).

ScottBakula · 06/05/2025 18:42

Well as it's my birthday today please can I have a Greek salad followed by dressed lobster, soft chocolate brownies, a pint of Guinness and a double Kraken rum please .

And no early alarm calls but when I do surface a couple of poached duck eggs on seeded batch toast .

MrsRandallFraser · 06/05/2025 21:15

I must make a mental note to pop in tomorrow for breakfast! I have a newborn (also called Leo) who is regularly waking up for his early breakfast between 3-4am, and I keep meaning to pop over here and forgetting! Looking forward to seeing what’s on the menu in the morning.

sashh · 07/05/2025 03:35

Morning.

@ScottBakula happy birthday, Leo is fetching duck eggs, apparently we have ducks in the petting zoo, who knew?

Florence is making seeded batch bread, of course and Fernando is making Kraken cocktails.

@MrsRandallFraser Welcome and welcome to baby Leo. Grab a wing backed chair and I'll send the kittenbees over, their purring can be quite comforting to a baby. There is some iced water ready for you and I'll get you a hot drink as soon as you are settled.

OP posts:
MrsRandallFraser · 07/05/2025 04:08

Good morning! What a lovely welcome! As predicted we are awake and one of us is enjoying his breakfast. The kittenbees do seem to be soothing him, he’s barely opened his eyes.

tattoonewbie · 07/05/2025 05:06

Morning ! Pain sees me awake. I'd best stay off the cocktails but scrambled egg on seeedy toast would be tremendous and if I can have some kitten bees when baby Leo is asleep again that would be lovely thank you

sashh · 07/05/2025 09:08

@tattoonewbie Are you OK with duck eggs? They are quite rich.

OP posts:
tattoonewbie · 07/05/2025 09:25

Maybe I'll take one and make cake with it (as long as nobody minds me baking a d adding to the options ) and just have toast. I'm a bit queasy on the pain relief. Good shout. And you take care too

MrsRandallFraser · 08/05/2025 04:05

Baby boy was so taken with the kittenbees yesterday, we thought we’d come back for another visit. Hoping you are open today as we had a lovely time yesterday.

sashh · 09/05/2025 02:18

Morning.

Sorry for the lack of service yesterday, I hope you found anything you wanted @MrsRandallFraser . So many Leos now, a lemur, a baby boy and now a pope.

If you are around today the wingback chairs are really comfy for baby feeding and there is always a jug of iced water.

Leo is making eggs (when isn't he) so I'll ask Florence to make a range of breads to go with them. Fernando is making bucks fizz. For something a bit warmer I'll make a big bowl of kedgeree for you to help yourselves.
