Morning and welcome.

To anyone new this is the Happy Place Café, all food and drink served here is calorie free. Everyone is welcome.

There are some people who have been here for literally years and others are newer.

The staff are me, obviously, Florence a French pastry chef who is married to Fernando the cocktail waiter (no one knows where Fernando is from so we suspect the marriage was about visas).

In a previous incarnation one of the regulars was Tilly (RIP) who brought a sparkling light in to the café along with a lemur named Leo.

Leo runs a dog wash (Tilly had a golden retriever and her family agreed to the dog wash as a tribute) but as there are rarely and dogs around he will wash anything, his other interests are goats and eggs. He spends every morning cooking eggs.

Outside the café is seating and a water feature, the water feature becomes a swimming pool in summer and an ice rink in winter. There is also a petting zoo.

Other residents are the kittenbees who are kittens the size of a bee with wings, they are very gentle but like to nibble anything sweet. Please do not give them alcohol.

Outside is where their larger cousins the bumblecats live, they are about the size of a fist and a lot more feisty than the kittenbees.

There is normally a daily special for breakfast and sometimes there is a pack up / bait / packed lunch.

Now to breakfast.

I thought a little trip to Germany would fit this morning so Florence is making bread rolls, soft and crusty, Leo is baking / frying / boiling eggs and Fernando is serving Apfelkorn.

I put out a selection of cooked meats, cheeses, jam, nutella, marmalade and if you want that abomination that people wither love or hate, it is in a locked box in the garden, far from the café, that is where it is to be consumed.

Actually I watched a vid from 'Atomic Shrimp' the other day that featured the brown paste added to warm milk.

Thank you @sashh . That’s perked me up.

Thank you @MrsRandallFraser . I’m baking DS a cherry and almond cake today. He’s putting himself under too much pressure and cake solves lots of things in my opinion.

tattoonewbie · 13/05/2025 02:46

Anyone up ? I'll just sit and help myself to a coffee (decaf even though I wonder why bother !) and if there's a leftover croissant I might have one or a cup of soup actually.
Snoring DH and leg pain see me awake though DDOG has accompanied me in a show of solidarity. He need a wash actually ...!

MrsRandallFraser · 13/05/2025 03:42

I’m here.

Struggling to keep my eyes open today, DP is snoring away (he better not complain about being tired later) and baby boy has already gone back to sleep - I’m going to need all the caffeine later!

ScottBakula · 13/05/2025 04:04

I am here too, I am awake for no reason whatsoever apart from my body seems to think I have had enough sleep.
I don't need to be up until 7am today .

I am going to make some toast , does anyone fancy some ?

MinnieMountain · 13/05/2025 06:10

Yes please @ScottBakula . I’ll dig out the honey, jams and butter.

sashh · 13/05/2025 06:35

Morning.

Sorry for the late start, I was awake in the night and I started watching YouTube then the Naudet brothers' 9/11 came on and I thought, 'I'll just watch a bit of this' and 2 hours later I was still there.

The toast looks good. I'm glad you have made yourselves at home.

I think we need something simple to go with the toast, obviously Leo is making fried and scrambled eggs, Florence is making apricot cakes and I'm frying mushrooms. Fernando is making mango smoothies.

I'm sure I'll be back tonight. Was awake from 2-6 and knackered now

MinnieMountain · 13/05/2025 16:40

Bugger, I meant to pop in again earlier. Are there any apricot cakes left?

ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 13/05/2025 18:52

Apricot cakes sound yummy!

sashh · 14/05/2025 04:00

Morning.

I'm glad the apricot tarts got eaten yesterday.

So lets stay behind the now non existent iron curtain for a Croatian breakfast.

Florence is making burek with a choice of fillings. Leo is making asparagus frittata. I'm going to make some heljdina kaša. Fernando has some rakija in various flavours.

Morning

It’s cooled down hasn’t it? I’m going to snuggle under a blanket in the garden. Coffee anyone?

sashh · 15/05/2025 06:23

Morning. Sorry for the late start I think toast, honey, jam or lemon curd will do us this morning. Florence can make us some doughnuts and Fernando can add a nip of whisky to the hot drinks. Leo, of course, will be makign eggs to go on toast so fried, poached or scrambled.

MrsRandallFraser · 16/05/2025 02:50

An earlier than usual wake up for me today 😴 I might just have a quick nap and then I’ll put the kettle on

sashh · 16/05/2025 07:14

Morning.

Sorry another late start. @MrsRandallFraser how are you doing? And how is Leo?

I think a simple breakfast is in order today so bacon, beans and cheese on toast. Florence is making some cherry tarts and Fernando is making cherry cocktails.

Leo is washing the goats, again.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 16/05/2025 08:35

Can I have bacon on toast with a splodge of HP please @sashh .

If Leo keeps washing the goats they will shrink !

MinnieMountain · 16/05/2025 09:37

Could I have on toast please? I’ll help myself to a cherry tart later. I’m mainly here for Florence’s baking.

Maybe Leo could teach the goats dressage? That should occupy him.

sashh · 16/05/2025 09:57

Leo and goat dressage? Er no thank you.

Toast on its way to both of you.

Morning.

IRL I am preparing for my dad to visit starting on Monday so Tuesday and Wednesday you will be on your own, obviously with help from F and F and Leo (lemur not baby).

Right so for this morning you are getting my dad's breakfast when he visits. So Cereal from one of those 'variety pack's. Orange juice, fruit (I try to get more fruit and veg in him when he is here) tea and toast.

Florence is making cheese turnovers and Fernando is making cherry cocktails and Leo is, making Japanese square omelettes.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 17/05/2025 06:01

Morning @sashh can I have a box of coco pops, then toast and marmalade please.

@MinnieMountain I wonder if Leo and the goats could do agility courses.

MinnieMountain · 17/05/2025 06:17

That’s a good idea @ScottBakula

Could I have toast and strawberry jam please @sashh ?

I’m hoping that @MrsRandallFraser not being here means she’s getting some sleep.

sashh · 17/05/2025 07:34

@ScottBakula Of course, my dad doesn't eat those so they usually go to the community shop / food bank.

@MinnieMountain no it is not a good idea.

MrsRandallFraser · 17/05/2025 08:07

Morning! Those little variety pack cereals are the best, we always used to get them when we went camping as kids - can I have the Frosties?

I was awake at 4am but baby Leo decided he didn’t want to go to bed til late so I don’t think either of us really had our eyes open at that time.

When he’s old enough baby Leo can give Leo the lemur a hand with the goats, I’ll start whispering in his ear about agility training now…

sashh · 18/05/2025 04:29

Morning.

I'm lactose intolerant so I don't eat cereal, hence getting the small boxes for guests, I used to buy a box or cornflakes but they would go out of date, there are only so many meatloaves you can make.

I'm glad people like the little boxes, I'll stock the cupboard with them for when I am not here.

I think this morning I'm in the mood for a fry up, bacon, sausages, beans, tomatoes, bubble and squeak or hash browns, mushrooms, fried bread and of course Leo will make the eggs you prefer.

Florence is making almond pastries and Fernando is serving a variety of fruit juices with or without a 'wee dram'.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 18/05/2025 09:41

A full fry up will always go down well with me, can I have hash browns and poached eggs with mine please.

Has Fernando got beetroot or carrot juice in ? I fancy something a bit different.

sashh · 19/05/2025 07:13

Morning

@ScottBakula well if there wasn't any yesterday then there will be today. how about carrot juice with a little grated ginger?

Today Leo and I are making 'eggs on toast' so they can be scrambled, fried, poached or baked and the scramble you can have additions, smoked salmon trimmings, bacon lardons, onion, cheese, chorizo or, well just ask.

Florence will have flapjacks for anyone who wants something a bit sweeter. Fernando is making more juices.
