OK, I have a theory, slap me if this one's been said before...........

I think it's all a big scientific project, to see the effect on human nature; how they adapt etc - notice the language barrier, this will be overcome somehow, the young lad learning it perhaps, then there's the baby.... well if I carry on this post will be massive. Just one more point though - the "monster" thing in the jungle - I think it's just a decoy to keep the survivers away from the technical stuff and the scientists!

Well that's my theory, let me know what you think.

I thought of the Bermuda Triangle thing too, but they flew out from Sydney, so even being very off course (1000 miles pilot said) heading towards Fiji, that doesn't put them anywhere near it (according to DH anyway, my geography is nonexsistant!)

That the island might just be a giant spaceship that has crashed landed in the ocean, cleverly disguised to look like an island? The polar bear of course has escaped from the ship, having been collected for experiments prior to the crash.

Lost is not all it's cracked up to be - I've been quite disappointed.

Two minutes into the first programme I'm supposed to believe that a plane has fallen from the sky,some guy has landed in sugarbeet with barely a scratch and almost perfect clothes - cut to beach scene - twisted metal everywhere but no twisted bodies - give me a break!
