Neighbours, and the ridiculous pregnancy storyline!

So, does anyone watch Neighbours? I think it's my favourite programme.... Seriously.

Anyway, last week Steph, who is pregnant, had pains in her stomach so went to hospital for a scan. At the scan, the doctor said, "And do you want to know the sex? It's a little early to say for sure, but it's a boy!"
SO, then she got home, and the DVD of the scan is sitting on the table, which says on the box, "Stephanie Scully, 12 weeks scan"!!!!!!!! 12 weeks, yet he could tell her it was a boy, apparently!!

THEN, less than a week later, she is in the pub, and feels the baby moving! I KNOW that some people feel it moving early on, but the way she reacted was like it was kicking her hard

And dont even get me started on the "pretend Toadie's the dad" storyline...

I was also wondering about how quickly the baby us growing!
At least at his rate it'll be born in a couple of weeks, then we can have the inevitable reveal and then move the FLIP on!

I do love neighbours tho! I sky+ the lunch time one so i can watch as soon as I get home from work!

vmcd28 · 26/05/2010 16:29

Ha, me too! You're as sad as me! I work from home, so I Sky+ it and watch it the following lunchtime

I know they never work in real time, so I was prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt re her scan, but the fact it said on the box that it was 12 weeks was just ridiculous

I was told at my nuchal scan in my first pregnancy that it was probably a girl (and it was) - he said they could be 80% sure at that stage, so that bit's not too crazy really

noeyedear · 26/05/2010 16:30

I thought that! I stopped watching it for a while because it was so apalling, but caught it yesterday. She's not even showing, yet it's kicking? Do the actors not sometimes say to the writers 'actually, this is unrealistic'? you would hardly have to do a ton of research into pregnancy! When is the story going to end????!!!!

RooBear · 26/05/2010 16:33

crazy, I hve quite a big bump coming upto 19weeks and haven't even felt bubbling! hate the storyline too, poor libby, she should get with lucas

Katz · 26/05/2010 16:33

i love neighbours but this storyline is really bonkers! I still don't understand why Steff didn't just go with the i had a 1 night stand was very drunk and can't remember the blokes name - Lucas would have stepped up to the plate and made a fab dad, and Toadie and Sonya could have lived happily ever after.

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 26/05/2010 16:33

I felt baby 3 kicking at what the docs said was 12 weeks.

I am sure I was 16 weeks though.

vmcd28 · 26/05/2010 22:02

The scan steph had was literally, gel on tummy, look at screen for 2 seconds, "it's a boy!" In this story there was no way they could've known. Plus, when u felt yr babies move early, wasn't it a bit like bubbles or butterflies? She reacted like she was getting punched, and had to get out her seat :-)
Still, youve gotta love Neighbours

well that's all a nuchal scan is really! did you want it in real time?

Amapoleon · 26/05/2010 22:12

Who is the dad? I haven't seen it for a while.

I wonder if karl will deliver it, hahaha.

Avocadoes · 26/05/2010 22:19

I had a private scan at 12 weeks to find out the sex. They were right both times. It literally was just gel on the tummy and watch the screen.

vmcd28 · 27/05/2010 06:51

OK, OK, I stand corrected! Ive just read so many things that say it is virtually impossible to know for sure what it is, even at say 16 weeks.

Amapoleon - the dad is Da, Libby's (ex) husband. No-one knows she is pregnant yet, and when she announces it, Toadie agreed to pretend to be the dad, and they are now pretending to be in a relationship. Although they keep saying things like "This is harder than I thought it'd be," they seem to have no clue that this is completely ridiculous and unworkable. Yes, I KNOW it's not real
My DS often watches it with me, but he seems to think it's a documentary.

Yes, I'm with you on Karl delivering it. It was brilliant how he stopped being a doctor, but that clearly gave them a logistical nightmare when anyone had to go to hospital, so he started working there again! And, she'll deliver it in one of the only two rooms they have at the hospital! I love how they just change the sign from "Reception" to "Special Care Unit" etc etc, depending on where theyre meant to be, but the waiting room is identical

This is why I haven't watched it since Des and Daphne left

Katz · 27/05/2010 09:40

if you read the spoilers on the neighbours website they actually don't want Karl to come near pregnant Steph as he would work out that bub couldn't possibly be Toadies due to the date of the pregnancy, but then since Karl caused huge problems between Sky and Dylan by wrongly dating the baby from a scan maybe Karl would be the best doctor for the job

leavingonajetplane · 27/05/2010 20:15

Ah Daphne giving birth with her tights still on...

I indulged in this nostalgiafest on dvd last christmas

skirmish · 27/05/2010 20:35

hasn't anyone thought to remind steph about her breast cancer...iirc, she couldn't carry libby's surrogate baby cos the cancer would come back, but all mysteriously forgotten now!!

FessaEst · 27/05/2010 20:43

I thought Libby's husband was called something else and dies falling off a horse?

SciFiFan · 27/05/2010 20:53

Fessa that was her first husband Drew (father of Ben). Dan was her second husband, Lucas's brother who she recently broke up with. Steph had a drunken fling with him within about 24 hours of the break up!

FessaEst · 27/05/2010 20:59

Ahhh, thank you!

nomorecake · 28/05/2010 10:02

I think part of the reason for saying that it's not a random one night stand would be in case Dan found out.
Saying it's toadie's and making in within the 'right' dates would remove suspicion, perhaps?
