Will anyone be watching this at 10?

MHaven't seen it yet, but my friend saw joe power recently and even she,as a believer, thought he was awful.

expatinscotland · 10/05/2010 22:59

am loving this!

PictureThis · 10/05/2010 23:01

He didn't come back on stage after the interval because he was so shit in the first half.

LetThereBeRock · 10/05/2010 23:03

That was great.

I knew something had to come out about Wanda. It was just too perfect.

I'm looking forward to next week's episode.

It isn't, Derren. You can't contact the dead. They can contact you, and feed you what you like, or maybe they let you see more than they can or will say, but sadly, it ain't a two-way street.

That's why, being a true medium, a la the real Mrs du Bois, as exposed on Oprah, works with the FBI.

You don't get to pick and that's why, if you have it, it's not very nice most of the time.

Because most of the time, it's because they're stuck.

LetThereBeRock · 10/05/2010 23:06

I can't say I believe in any form of afterlife.

if you want to see some real paranormal investigators, then onto youtube for the first 6 seasons of Ghosthunters. TAPS, The Atlantic Paranormal Society. Two born and bred Rhode Island, New England, plumbers who started a group to debunk claims of haunting.

And their primary goal is still to debunk.

But they couldn't debunk some, complete with to the max technology and in-depth knowledge of how electricity and water work to deliver a sense of fear.

Really, really good stuff, because, even though they believe because evidence has shown otherwise, they are still great skeptics.

LetThereBeRock · 10/05/2010 23:10

Real paranomal investigator is an oxymoron imho but I will check some of those out.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 10/05/2010 23:11

Oh, I most definitely do.

I believe in other life forms, too, a la Stephen Hawking. The universe is just too large to conclude otherwise, even mathematically.

He's completely correct in that and brave to go out on a limb and public with it.

He used to contact a professor I worked for, from time to time, on the phone and I've had the absolute privilege of speaking with him, whilst waiting for said professor to appear.

OMG.

Sorry, but he's so sexy, IMO. I so would!

LetThereBeRock · 10/05/2010 23:11

If I can stop watching the 'Mary loves Dick' video.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 10/05/2010 23:13

Really check out Ghosthunters, LetMe, because they are very skeptical, still are after all these years, and formed up to debunk.

You just could not get a bigger skeptic than I was, age 29, the child of ardent Catholic, US Republicans.

I thought it was all utter tosh until I just couldn't deny otherwise.

Even now, I'm 'You're not here. Go away. There must be a lot of electrics under the wall here.'

LetThereBeRock · 10/05/2010 23:16

I will check them out. I promise.

I'm very skeptical, even more so than I used to be,but I'll watch them.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 10/05/2010 23:21

Expat, I know what you mean, I made a documentary a few years ago about a small group who set up for exactly the same reason, they wanted to prove that the paranormal stuff was utter bunkum.

They all started off as skeptics, but it was the 1 or 2 percent that they really couldn't explain that turned them in to believers.

Not saying that I believe, exactly, but they definitely made me more open minded!

expatinscotland · 11/05/2010 00:31

These people really don't want to believe.

They've debunked more often than not.

Even funnier, they've said stuff like, 'someone fucked up installing your dishwasher, sue 'em' or gone into basements with electrical meters and said, 'no wonder you feel static, look at all these wires and this electrical reading!'

Honestly, more often than not, they tell the claimant it's not haunted.

coming to this late having pondered it all day.

do you think that this particular chap was bonefide? I belive that there are some people who have a gift BUT I am not convinced that chap was.

I was pleased that Derren took account of the comfort it gives some people.

bathbuns · 11/05/2010 23:10

Joe Power was scary. God, his eyes. He seemed to be a total and utter fraud.

I heart Derren Brown so much. His skills are amazing. I want to be his apprentice

bruffin · 12/05/2010 08:18

DD pointed out he didn't blink for a long time. It was scary but he is obviously a fraud,The use of numbers and common first names was classic cold reading. I was wondering how he got the first reading so accurately, it was obvious he must have done some research.

thisismyclone · 12/05/2010 16:56

Joe Power, for example, is a twat.

Loved Derren's smirks whenever he knew that Power was talking rubbish especially in regards to the Hollyoaks bloke and bike accident.

What's next weeks one about? Anyone know?
