I should sneer at it, but I'm really starting to like Burn Notice

It embraces its own cheesiness so well.

I makes me laugh that the ex-IRA girlfriend couldn't do an Irish accent and actually stopped even trying after the first episode. I love that the main actor belongs to the Keanu Reeves school of acting (ie don't act, just say the lines as though it was a read-through). I find his mouth and teeth almost hypnotic, he has a very odd shaped jaw. I particularly love the Mcgyver-style cobbling together of high-tech from components available on the high street. It's also a real pleasure to see Cagney (or is it Lacey?) back on the the tv.

I guess the charm will wear off unless they actually manage to come up with a plot, but so far I'm enjoying it.

Anyone else?

Just me then? I have quite poor taste in TV I admit.

I missed last week's episode so I'm looking forward to tonight.

If nobody else will talk to me, I'll just come back and talk to myself about it later. I don't care how sad and friendless I look.

I think he fancies himself as a bit of a Keanu. Especially when there are explosions, you can actually see him thinking "I've got the cheekbones, I've got the white teeth, I've got the wooden acting, give me a long coat and I could totally do Matrix".

I've started watching this too and I wholeheartedly agree about the cheesiness and wooden acting. It's brilliant background TV though IYSWIM. The kind of thing you'd semi-watch while doing the ironing for example, or just when you want some background noise, hehe.
And it's all so predictable as well. Who's ever heard of a supposedly super spy being at the beck and call of mummy and being taken in by her sneaky ways of getting him to come over to see her?
So many plotholes it is hilarious. :-D

bran · 09/04/2010 15:12

Do you both agree with me about the oddness of his jaw/mouth? I miss some of the dialogue whenever there is a full-face close up, which doesn't make a jot of difference to my understanding of the plot.

What plot?

But I do agree about the jaw/mouth and weird robot-like smile.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/04/2010 17:37

It's good. Watched first 2 series's and now waiting for 3rd

assume you are watching the repeats of 1&2

or have I cocked up&missed begining of series 3?

bran · 09/04/2010 18:25

I'm pretty sure it's series 1, it's on Fiver. I only get freeview channels, I'm sure it's much further ahead on Sky or whatever.

I'm amazed they've managed to keep it going to a 3rd series. Does his acting get any better? (I would be a little disappointed if it did. )

Well def did 2. Maybe 3rd won't be made but does get better and explains who burned him and why

bran · 09/04/2010 19:43

There is a 3rd series, I had a look on IMDB.

Plus, the guy who plays Michael Weston is surprisingly old, only a year younger than me. He might in better shape than me, but my jaw line is better than his.

You know, I will never be able to watch this again with a straight face. I found his acting wooden, but now I don't think I'll be able to get past his jaw. Thanks Bran! :O

Pamsie · 09/04/2010 20:46

Well it appears that series 3 has just finished airing in the US and apparently there is going to be a series 4 to start later this year. (According to Wikipedia)

So, it must get better in the series as I wonder how else they would have made a 4th series.

Tortington · 09/04/2010 20:47

dh watches this all the time - its wank of the highest order - i amv. dissapointed in MN

bran · 09/04/2010 22:17

Custardo is disappointed in me. I'll struggle bravely onwards but my self-confidence will never be the same again.

TracyK · 13/04/2010 13:03

I've watched all of it - think it was Sky1 - and loved it ALL! Lighthearted and amusing.

Better than all the other depressing crap on TV.
