It's making me want to go out and pillage Maison Blanc!

It's about a group of French pastry chefs who've risen to the top of their profession through some sort of v v prestigious exam (or something - my mind was on the cakes!) and though I think we're meant to be sniggering at them slightly (they're all perfectionists and a bit OCD about patisserie) all I can think of is wanting to go to Paris and eat my way through their repertoire!

Worth watching if you like, um, cakes.

i think this country lacks really good pastry shops

I know. In Paris, you can't sneeze without getting some on a fancy patisserie, whereas here, we have ...

Greggs!

I used to be a pastry chef, trained under a perfectionist french pastry chef and would love to open a proper patisserie - but I just don't think people would pay the prices. I would be ecstatic to be wrong....

Oh it was amazing!

I think I just need to move to France, the French half of me longs for a good patisserie on a regular basis and the yearning was very strong last night!

I've just finished watching it. I love documentaries like this.

Spoiler warning.

I so badly wanted Jacquey to win though. I was disappointed that he didn't,but perhaps next year.
I wanted all of the chefs to win actually, just like the judge.

I could have cried when Phillipe's sculpture broke. It was so sad. I loved how the others, chefs and judges tried to comfort him,and I was delighted to see him winning a MOF.

And how delicious did everything look?

cookielove · 21/03/2010 19:51

that was on earlier in the week, thursday i think.

Which is when i watched it, so sad when Phillipes sculpture broke, i am such a vocal watcher, my dp (who lives on the pc) kept asking what was happening. All the MOF's really cared, coming over to him and willing him to carry on.

When the judge had to keep pausing, and was so clearly upset that not everyone could win! So sad.

And yes so yyyyyuuuuuummmmyyyyyyy

LetThereBeRock · 21/03/2010 20:04

I really liked Phillipe. He seemed so nice. I couldn't have recovered from that as he did. I'd have kicked the remaining part of the sculpture to pieces then left in tears.

I watched much of it through my fingers as it was very tense at times and painful to watch when the sculptures or parts of them broke.

I felt sorry for the chef who seemed utterly broken by the stress of the competition and who said he'd never enter again.

I hope Jacquy enters for the next MOF and wins. He deserves it.

Such artistry and you can eat them. That red white and blue collar is quite a prize. My heart dropped through the floor when Phillipe's sculpture broke.

If you are ever in London and find yourself in Soho there is Patisserie Valerie if you need a fix. I think they have other shops, maybe Knightsbridge or Chelsea.

It reminds me of Italy, they have some pretty good patisseries there. I stayed a lot in a town called Nepi, just north of Rome on the Via Cassia Bis. I would drive into the town to a little baker who made the most delicious pastries.
Yum Yum Yum
