Watching this and I'm so impressed by his achievement. Really moving when he explained his motivation for everything - death of his mother when he was 6. Uplifting and sad at the same time.

It really is fabulously inspirational, isn't it? Was very moving too.

MollieO · 04/03/2010 23:54

Part 2 is same time next week. Not sure how many parts it is but I'll definitely be watching. I remember him being interviewed after he had completed the challenge and he made it sound as if he had found it relatively easy, which from tonight's programme it was anything but.

Indulgence of the highest order (not that I would dream even of watching, mind)

LittlePushka · 05/03/2010 00:15

Missed it...grrr presumable no BBC3 +1?

travellingwilbury · 05/03/2010 07:15

Oh bugger I forgot about this . Why was it on so late ?

BendyBob · 05/03/2010 10:14

What a thoroughly lovely top bloke Eddie is.

I was at how he kept going. Amazing and wonderful achievement.

I could barely watch at times, the pain must have been awful.

LittlePushka · 06/03/2010 18:54

travelingwillbury! bbc i player...i just downloaded it! great stuff!

orienteerer · 07/03/2010 20:59

I've just watched this on iplayer, amazing, can't wait for next episode. Fantastic achievement, totally belittles my marathon attempts.

LittlePushka · 07/03/2010 22:25

I know - inspirational is'nt he?. Got me out of my pit and plodding three miles I'd never have done this morning!

But I did feel sad somehow - that the loss of his mother when he was just six years old is still so painful for him. Makes you think, I think.

orienteerer · 12/03/2010 19:07

Just watched episode 2 on iplayer. Still can't get over what an amazing feat this was. I've run 3 marathons (ahem, some years ago now), obviously not in one go! The thought of being able/willing to get up the next morning and do it all over again (x30 or however many it was) is amazing.

LittlePushka · 13/03/2010 21:51

Orienteerer,...did it make you want to get out and train for another? I have done a few half marathons years ago...and a couple of 5K charity runs last year (but crashed out for the winter) BUT WOW,...I was up and out the very next day! (Not 26 miles you understand!

I felt really humbled by his programme...and wanted to do some charity runs again! (Barmy, because I HATE running until I get back, when I love it )

orienteerer · 16/03/2010 20:24

LittleP - yes I'd love to go out and run for miles, sadly my aging body tells me otherwise. Currently battling a long term injury, no end in sight, kind of resigned to walking rather than running these days.

lottiejenkins · 17/03/2010 20:28

Am watching this now........ Those two little Liverpool lads who wanted to keep cycling with him were so lovely!!!

travellingwilbury · 18/03/2010 07:16

I managed to see it this week , I just can't imagine how the hell he managed to get up every morning and do it all again .

Amazing stuff .

thighsmadeofcheddar · 18/03/2010 07:18

I loved it when that woman ran after him in the Lake District. "Eddie, Eddie..."

He's fantastic, what a feat.

orienteerer · 18/03/2010 20:53

Last episode is on tonight, yet again at way beyond my bedtime. Why such an amazing programme is on BBC3 at 22.30 is beyond me. This is for Sport Relief which is this weekend so why is this buried on BBC3?

Megletwantsittobesummer · 19/03/2010 11:44

just watching last night's episode. I'm not quite sure why he hasn't just keeled over. Whatever he's doing its clearly (almost) working for him.

He's just scoffing macdonalds during the run! I end up crippled with a stitch if there's anything in my stomach when I run.

Go Eddie!

wintera · 19/03/2010 13:07

orienteerer - I couldn't agree more! Why the hell has Eddie been buried in the schedules on the BBC? This should be on prime time on bbc1 surely? My husband and I said the same thing last night. What he accomplished was amazing and most people I have spoken to have no idea what he has done. It wasn't well reported when he did it last yer and it hasn't well reported now either. I live near Liverpool and if I had known it was happening last year I would have gone and cheered him on. I only found out about it when he was in Northern Ireland so I missed him.

Kneazle · 19/03/2010 13:13

I agree wintera. It is odd that this has had so little publicity. I would have been out there cheering on the roadside. The man is a hero. I have trouble running to the post box !

mesobitchy · 19/03/2010 13:17

Ooh I missed it.
He ran past my house when he was training!
I was a bit have I been drinking, or was that Eddie Izzard?!

travellingwilbury · 19/03/2010 13:40

I have just watched last nights episode and what he managed to do is just amazing . I don't understand why it has got such little coverage either . The bike ride one that was on bbc last night was in a prime time slot and as great as that was I don't think it comes close to what he has done .

orienteerer · 19/03/2010 18:41

I've just watched last nights episode, the more I think about it the angrier I get that this has been hidden away on BBC 3.

wintera · 20/03/2010 09:19

Did he get much coverage on bbc's sport relief show last night? Thinking of sending and email to the bbc and asking if they are going to show it on bbc 1 at some point.

LittlePushka · 21/03/2010 21:54

Well he shamed me into both getting my shoes on again and part with a shed load of cash!! Not even DH's cheeky promises have ever managed that.

What a man,...ready to marry him right here, right now (subject to DH co-operation...!)

LittlePushka · 21/03/2010 22:05

Hey wintera,... tonight,10.25pm BBC1, highlights!!
