where the heck do they get these people? where do they get £750,000 to spend on a house?

it makes me laugh - they walk into these massive 7 bedroom houses and go "oh its a bit small"

i want to slap them!

Yes, dh has been ranting.

Every week I have to say to him 'Well, they have to have sex with each other whereas you get me. See? No need to feel jealous.'

poshtottie · 24/02/2010 21:24

I'd love to have their budget. Don't think it will be in this lifetime though.

JoTheUnsure · 24/02/2010 21:27

Haven't been watching tonight (football on...) but I'd drag the process out just to spend some more time with Phil...

thehillsarealive · 24/02/2010 21:28

haha, too big, too small, ideal, just right... and they end up renting a 3 bedroom house.

I would never stretch myself to that sort of budget, it would cripple you in monthly payments.

ShowOfHands · 24/02/2010 21:30

That 7 bedroom house with playroom in Sporle is my 'if I won the lottery house', it's in my favourites. They wander in and turn their nose up. Different worlds.

AnyFucker · 24/02/2010 21:32

I am usually vindicated when I say "they haven't got that kind of money..."

and they don't actually buy anything by the end of the programme

and the dream to have a London crash-pad gets shelved too

fantasists, ain't they...who wanna get on telly

noddyholder · 24/02/2010 21:35

I think they regretted it at the end and looked like they had made a mistake with the whole relocation. He was full of loving the two house lifestyle whereas she had a surly look like she was homesick.I am always amazed when they say too small and it is the size of a bloody shopping centre.Selfish

plus3 · 24/02/2010 21:39

maybe when you get to spend 750K you expect it to be bloody massive...I would

ThatVikRinA22 · 24/02/2010 21:49

but the houses were bloody massive! one was 7 bedroomed! how big do you need when there is 3 of you??

OP posts:
plus3 · 24/02/2010 21:53

oh gosh I would need at least 10 bedrooms, 2 kitchens (one for the staff) at least 5 reception rooms...really the list could go on....

PardonMyClench · 24/02/2010 21:59

Why are you being so harsh about having 750K to spend on a house. You saw their house in London. Most 3-4 bed terraces in expensive parts of London are 550-700K . Not an amazing leap. They weren't teenagers and had been working in a trendy, expensive business.
They were unrealistic in many ways and yes having that amount of money to spend on a house makes then fortunate but certainly not eextraordinary in London.

ThatVikRinA22 · 24/02/2010 22:03

im not being harsh, on these programmes their expectations are always stupidly unrealistic though.

i just know if i could afford a beautiful house in a fantastic part of the country i would feel very fortunate and not walk into every massive beautiful barn conversion and then moan!

people have no idea how lucky they are.

OP posts:
plus3 · 24/02/2010 22:04

Oh I don't mean to be harsh, I'm just jealous. And desparate to buy our first house, which won't be 750K or that big.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 24/02/2010 22:06

Didn't watch it tonight, but generally, regardless of budget, a lot of them just come over as very very spoiled.

UnquietDad · 24/02/2010 22:06

I am always deeply suspicious of these couples who want a "London crash-pad" as well as the country home. One suspects that Piers will be spending most evenings there with a variety of silly nubile wenches, while Araminta spends all his money and bakes cupcakes in their Cotswolds home.

PardonMyClench · 24/02/2010 22:10

I agree, they do get dopes on there and you do wonder how much effort they have put into finding their own home before acting the diva for Phil and Kirsty.
I don't find the budget ridiculous just the fact that they couldn't find something to suit them.

Spillage21 · 24/02/2010 22:13

I'm all for a bit of property porn, but the couple tonight...sheesh.

whomovedmychocolate · 24/02/2010 22:23

Didn't see it but not all properties for £750K are big. Ours is worth about that I think and it's not big. Also, there are a lot of cash poor, property rich people in the UK. My third house I bought (and struggled to pay the mortgage on because I was right out of uni) for £30K then sold it for £120 five years later. Had no money in the bank, just a house in a desirable street,

Property prices are just an indication of how much people are prepared to pay to live in a certain place, there is very little difference physically between a three bedroomed detached in footballervillage and central Manchester, yet the price tag is very different. If you are desperate to live in a certain style of house in a certain place, you have to stump up that cost. It's nothing to envy, personally if my family are safe, warm and happy I don't give a stuff how much my house might be worth and I pity people who are so obsessed with such things.

However, I agree you've got to question the level of twattery that would choose to get someone else to film them wandering round critiquing someone's upholstery though.

ApplesinmyPocket · 24/02/2010 22:26

They were a hard couple to warm to somehow. A bit moany and humourless. But maybe they were just uptight in front of the cameras, they seemed sweet with their DD.

I loved one of those barn conversions! Always attracted by that modern look, all open-plan and galleries. Used to live in a very old house and got quickly fed up with 'character' which did indeed mean that holy grail a 'lovely fireplace', but also meant rats in the loft and damp spidery corners.

Spillage21 · 24/02/2010 22:33

But they have chosen to buy into a lifestyle - They don't need a 7 bedroom house and several acres.

Love the word twattery tho. There was a lot of it today along with mutters of 'Come the revolution...' here in Sarf London.

Spillage21 · 24/02/2010 22:35

Sorry, that was directed at Whomovedmychocolate...

nickschick · 24/02/2010 22:37

I dont think these people are real .....I once saw a man on one of these shows who had also featured in 'cleanaholics'....and he wasnt married then with a child ....i think they are actors!!

MillyMollyMoo · 24/02/2010 22:42

I agree ... an ex model my arse and since when do shop keepers own £750k houses, I think it's done to make people feel better about having to borrow 10 x their salary to buy a shoe box in Reading, because one day they will be in the mansion. To quote Shrek .. like that's ever gonna happen.

venusonarockbun · 24/02/2010 22:46

I think they are all actors too. I dont think any of them really have the money they say they have.

nickschick · 24/02/2010 22:47

Im glad its not just jealous old me
