Saw lots of stuff over the weekend about how fab and educational it was, but I've not seen it on TV for years. We've got a Virgin XL package, but no idea what channels to look at!

Not sure but these spin offs have been on fairly recently:-

Sesame Tree - Cbeebies

Elmo's World - Five

Bert And Ernie - Fiver 8.45 am Saturday/Sunday

My DSs were brought up on Sesame St in the early 1990s when it was shown on C4 for an hour (no adverts allowed) just after lunch. They came back from playgroup, had lunch, watched Sesame St with me and really loved it. We used to sing all the songs and do our counting with the Count ...

IrritatedMe · 09/11/2009 13:45

We bought Sesame Street 'old school' on DVD. The Dcs love it and it is really educational and hilarious.

you can get a few gems on you tube- check out Stevie Wonder, tis fab

maxybrown · 10/11/2009 08:56

I have just spent half an hour trying to find this out too, but sadly no - apparently it is too American for us (but Disney is allowed?!!) and they can't possibly find an hour to fit it in.....sigh. My son loves all the clips we have watched on you tube, and we will eventually get the old school dvd's. What an absolute shame, yet we can have things like waybaloo (what is that??) and tons and tons and tons of Justin/Mr Tumble on....sheesh. Give me sesame street anyday.

maxybrown and others, I completely agree with you! Sesame is really quality children's programming. The channel that makes Sesame Street, PBS, is now broadcasting here in the UK; their channel is PBS UK. For some odd reason they aren't yet showing Sesame Street. PLEASE go on their facebook page and petition for it!

Sesame Street is brilliant.

If anyone wants to have an awesome song stuck in their head, go to YouTube and search for 'Cookie Monster disco'.

Me lost me cookie in the boogie music.

I LOVE Sesame Street. Just wanted to share that! :)

elbett · 13/11/2011 17:20

According to the PBS UK facebook page - "We appreciate Sesame Street's avid following and are working on showing it in the UK. Please do check our schedule for updates."

Hoo-bloody-ray! I LOVED Sesame Street as a little one and have always wanted to share it with my own children. I'm now pregnant with my first and it looks like SS may be returning to our screens!

(I can know let DP know that upgrading to the XL Virgin TV package just for bloody ESPN was not such a waste of money after all.... maybe)

The new stuff is hilarious. The Glee tribute (based on the letter G) made me wee.
Only on YouTube though Sad. I miss Bert'n'Ernie.

Please- if you use facebook, either join the 'Bring Sesame to the UK' group posted on PBS UK's facebook page, leave a message or both. I really feel that, as they are a new channel here in the UK, if we use enough pester power :) they will act. I think it's so surprising it wasn't one of the first shows they thought to air! I'd love to see the power of mumsnet bring the show here.

I miss watching Sesame Street too. We have a couple of the DVDs, but i have to say we watch the Sesame Street website a lot more - it is excellent - loads of videos on demand, lots of playlists, games etc.

stressheaderic · 16/11/2011 20:14

Sesame Street is super, we watch Youtube clips of it all the time.

We record Elmo's World on 5 every morning and watch it when we get home from nursery. It is really educational. And not in an in your face hoity toity politically correct way like Cbeebies, just in a implicit imformative and fun way.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 17/11/2011 15:24

The episode with Prince is a stone-cold classic.
