then you know now I know it's just a show but he's a two faced git. I'll never watch X factor again. I knew it was rigged but that was so hypocritical beyond belief.

OP posts:

apparently john and edward won the public vote the previous week, so i imagine cowell knew what he was doing (ie knocking someone with zero chance of winning out of the competition).

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 09/11/2009 12:03

Y'all need to read Propp's Morphology of the Folktale

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 09/11/2009 12:13

The thing is the judges keep going on about it being a singing competition.
But the way I see it is that it can't be or else the public wouldn't be allowed a vote.
It never has been a singing competition it is a popularity contest.

I actually have been rooting for John and Edward every week because they are proving every week that it is a popularity contest by still being their.

I also feel incredibly sad when I see all these people on my facebook page slagging them off they are kids who are still their so someone must like them.
They are the same age or younger than some of the people being nasty about them's dc's can you imagine if you were seeing these hate groups and forum posts about your dc's?

And totally off topic my mumsnet has goen wierd again

Flossytops · 09/11/2009 12:19

I bet that if one of Simon's acts was up against the twins they'd have gone out! It's a farce. If you think it is too and are angry at what happened and want to make a difference, join this event on FB and refuse to vote next week. That'll show 'em!

I don't believe for a second that John and Edward were in the bottom two in terms of votes cast. Fewer people voted for them than that bland blonde lad? Very sceptical about that.

The Sunday show gets many more viewers than Saturday night, so this was a good way of getting Jedward to "sing" again in front of a bigger audience.

Good plan.

I auditioned for x-factor last year, pretty much to see how the audition process worked as I was intreagued. The first auditions are very interesting - you queue up (in the pouring rain) and then are given a number and then you go inside and sit down until your number is called. They're called in tens and everyone lines up outside a little room. Then when you go in you see two or three people and they bearly speak. You then sing for about thirty seconds and you get a yes/no (I got a no). The thing is that there's no comment, no asking about you etc. I actually think that they make up their mind as soon as you walk into the room, based on what you look like.

My personal view is that i didn't get in because I'm not good enough to get to the finals (yes I am a realist) but not bad enough to make for good entertainment fodder. (although having said that i know I am definitely better than the twins.

After I'd auditions I came home to read about other experiences, and i found a blog entry by someone whose daughter had got to the third audition (before you see the judges), was taken into a room to ask what she had to offer the competition and whether she had a sob story, and when she said no she was iliminated.

Part of me is tempted to audition again just to see if I could get any further (I do actually think I'm good enough to make it to the judges at least)., if I lost a bit of weight, bought a sexy outfit and some heels etc, and the sob story (born blind yada yada) would make for good television.

wannaBe · 09/11/2009 12:34

an event on facebook? wtf for?

Surely it's simple - if you don't like the acts then don't vote for them.

"join this event on FB and refuse to vote next week. That'll show 'em! "

I no I put a no comment post in but really! How utterly pathetic!

AortaBeTidying · 09/11/2009 12:41

Wannabe, it was slightly different this year. It was all open air !! Lots of "booths" with producers in. It was the same with the queuing though - queue from 7am and they didn't even let the soloists in the stadium until 3!! Lots of "pieces to camera" too. There were researchers going through the crowd asking if anyone had any "interesting stories" and those people were given golden tickets to go straight through to the judges rounds (audition round 3 i think)

I am not bitter, although i know it sounds like i am!! SOny BMG liked me a lot but tbh i don't want all the stigma and interference and delving into my past that goes with x factor. I just like to sing and want to keep doing it. I know i can sing and enjoy making the people who listen to me happy so i have no desire to take it further.

wannaBe · 09/11/2009 12:43

oh is that what that emoticon is for?

But yes I agree totally. All these people crying outrage and joining groups and causes on facebook and the like are coming across as a bit idiotic IMO.

tribeleader · 09/11/2009 12:43

I think Simon Cowell is playing a game of reverse psychology. The weeks he put them down, they did really well in the vote, so this week he complimented them and kept them in. The public will now not vote to make sure they are in the bottom two again. They will prob be up against one of the better singers and then they will be gone. Simon Cowell will be happy and so will the public

I don't understand everyone who gets so carried away with these shows, it's all pantomime. Anyone who is any good, will get a career regardless. The twins will be the new cheeky girls, Joe and Lucie will go into musical theatre. Not sure how well the 3 older boys (and the most talented) will do after but again I think Ollie might go into theatre too

The winner is only really guarenteed xmas no1 and nothing else. Talent will prevail whoever wins

AortaBeTidying · 09/11/2009 12:44

I think that this year, Simon has forgotten that these singers are real people and that he is letting the publicity and the media take this too far. He does have a responsibility for these peoples lives at the moment. it's his company so as "the face" of it he should be held responsible to some degree over what happens to them. At least to a certain degree.

teameric · 09/11/2009 12:45

why do people bother so much about the bloody X-Factor, just get over it ffs and get a grip

Heathcliffscathy · 09/11/2009 12:46

gosh yes...total scum for keeping up ratings on his (he is in co ownership with simon fuller) tv show...what a total bastard!

pmsl

wannaBe · 09/11/2009 12:47

aorta that may have been the case last year too but I queued with the groups (they say if you require special assistance to queue with the groups, and as I am visually impaired i opted for that thinking I might have a lesser wait time which I did). When we came out of the audition (at about 11:30) there were still people queuing outside the o2 stadium in the pouring rain waiting to go in.

I think the pieces to camera etc are done with the solo acts, and I remember also reading a piece where someone refused to chant the "we've go the x-factor" or whatever it was and was thrown out for not conforming to what they wanted.

thefortbuilder · 09/11/2009 12:48

it's a tv show fgs
has anybody ever really thought that it's not rigged and it's not a complete bloody farce???

The voting is not rigged - would be far too dangerous to do that, especially after the phone voting scandals of the past few years.

But the show's primary function is to raise money through phone votes and advertising revenue - the eventual winner is way down on the list.

By Sunday morning the show would have had a very clear idea that J&E were in the sing off and Cowell would have agreed the tactic with the producers. The show is pulling in 15million viewers - it's huge and they can't afford to lose J&E at the moment. Lucie won't bring viewers in. If J&E went the X Factor might lose a million viewers - which effects the advertising rates.

The show is not, never has been and never will be about the most talented performer.

forehead · 09/11/2009 16:28

I can't believe anyone ever thought that it was a singing competition. BTW, i think old Simon is beginning to believe his own hype. I've gone right off him.

bewareofthedog · 09/11/2009 16:30

Cheryl Cole did the whole taking it to deadlock thing first when it was Danyl and Miss Frank in the final. It does make good television, and the person with the fewest votes gets kicked off...I think that's fair.

I don't understand the whole outrage thing. It was the same last year when Laura went. Lucie doesn't strike me as being a 'shining star'. She's a pretty girl with a good voice, right enough, but beyond that she seems rather dull; the X Factor is not there.

I think the boos for Jedward are pathetic too, and audiences giving them a hard time will only encourage their fans to vote more.

I still like Mr Cowell and I'll still be watching the show. The final result doesn't actually have an effect on my life...

mumeeee · 09/11/2009 16:59

I agre with the op. Lucy was the better singer. Lucy didn't have two votes against her, both Danni and Ceryl had voted for her. Sinon should have put her through. One of my daughter s knows her,she has been in a musical wth her. My youngest Daughter was furious and now thinks the show is fixed. I agree with hwer so none of our family will be watching it again. Lucy was doing well.she worked hard and has improved over the past few weeks.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 09/11/2009 17:15

the show is fixed in sc's favour so your daughter is correct.

there's always a mid-table outrage in these shows, it's part of the plot to keep everyone tuning in during the boring middly bits.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 09/11/2009 17:16

ps soph do you have my email still? i tried to get you on fb but you gave my friend request a rubber ear.

FreeTheGuidoOne · 09/11/2009 17:29

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if this voting hell angers you, wait for the Apocalyptic advent of David Cameron's reign.

But no, I understand. On Remembrance Sunday it's very important to have a timely reminder of what scum is. Because there was Hitler wasn't there who committed mass genocide and was a disgusting and deeply flawed, heinous dictator and then Simon Cowell was on some pop pap drivel and did or did not make a decision you agreed with or something. I can't believe my Grandad fought in the war so that two men could wear proton packs on a Saturday night. Tsk.
