There have been NO trails about it. Or am I missing something?

Will be glued to seat and doing no work (which I often do in the evenings)

Yay. And drool. Who will be killed off dya think?

ooh, didn't pick up on Malcolm and Colin [must rewatch all previous box sets emoticon]. Do you really think so? Were they not just ordinary mates?

edam · 04/11/2009 22:40

No, there was definitely a very understated love affair there. Remember when Colin was killed by those terrorists - somehow got out of the office and into the field? Think they tied him to a tree at some point. Malcolm was Jolly Cross about the whole thing. When the team back at the grid were talking about it, Malcolm was riled and spat something at them about how dear Colin had been to him - he did use the word 'friend' I think but it was clearly code for something rather more intense.

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 04/11/2009 22:42

Katisha, I am hard, and a great loss to the security services if they would like to CAT me.

For instance, I found myself wondering why the guy who shot MI6 blokey and splattered Ros with his brains didn't shoot her too. Who could resist? Apart from MrsMalcolmTucker.

So many missed opportunities for violence!

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 04/11/2009 22:44

I agree with Edam re Malcom and Colin. Malcolm doesn't get Jolly Cross willy nilly.

Katisha · 04/11/2009 22:50

If he's really retired, I could do with him at work. Our IT never works that fast.

Have spent all day trying to load documents from a share drive and failing. Was somewhat miffed by the speed of computer operations on The Grid.

UnquietDad · 04/11/2009 22:53

I picked up on that last series, edam, but thought I was perhaps reading too much into it.

edam · 04/11/2009 22:55

That's because MI5 recruit all the really clever IT geeks, of course.

My BIL does some vague IT stuff for a vague part of the foreign office that we are not supposed to know anything much about. But it's far less exciting - he leaves early every day to pick up my niece from school, which suggests he's not actually tracking terrorists or foreign intelligence officers across London.

edam · 04/11/2009 22:56

UQD, thanks for spotting Rani's dad, I knew he was from something but had no idea what, despite watching SJA with ds only yesterday...

UnquietDad · 04/11/2009 22:58

I recognised him straight away, sadly...

edam · 04/11/2009 23:01

Of course you did, and I value for this service.

can't agree with you about Ace, though, always reminds me of Red Dwarf.

Pixel · 04/11/2009 23:01

For someone who says he doesn't know about children I thought Malcolm was pretty wonderful the way he distracted the little boy with the story about the dog. I doubt I'd be able to think of something so clever in those circumstances.

It was all great though wasn't it? I'm not sure I'll survive the whole series, the tension might finish me off!

edam · 04/11/2009 23:02

you for this service, darn it! Always know I should really go to bed when I start making mistakes...

edam · 04/11/2009 23:03

He wasn't just distracting the boy, he was pulling the baddie in, making him feel empathy towards the boy. V. clever.

VerityBrulee · 04/11/2009 23:04

How on earth will they ever solve anything without Malcolm? He is surely irreplaceable.

In the promo for the next episode there was a shot of Harry, Ruth, Ros, Lucas, Jo and a young guy with lots of dark hair sitting at a computer - he must be the new geeky guy.

How many episodes before Lucas and the CIA lady get to know each other better?

I LOVE Spooks, I shall have sweet dreams tonight

UnquietDad · 04/11/2009 23:05

They are getting a new techie. A young guy called Tariq. I wonder if on his first day he will be made to go down to the stores for a "long stand".

Pixel · 04/11/2009 23:06

Yes I know, but keeping the boy so calm also made it harder for the assassin to kill him because it gave him more time to consider. If the boy was hysterical it would have made it easier to shoot him in the heat of the moment just to shut him up and get it over with. IYSWIM? Probably not putting it very well.

UnquietDad · 04/11/2009 23:06

I always wonder - who does their catering? Do they have a canteen? Can you imagine the dinner ladies? "Ooh, yes, Mr Lucas always likes his extra potatoes (wink)"

And what about the people who empty the bins and clean the floors? And sort out the photocopier? Do they all have to be vetted?

I suppose there are lots of admin people like Black Chap In Blue Shirt this week who appeared to do an awful lot of walking around the office carrying files.

Pixel · 04/11/2009 23:10

I was trying to persuade dh to apply for a job at Mi5 last week, they want someone on their IT help desk.

He said the wages weren't enough to justify commuting to London so he wouldn't. Meanie.

UnquietDad · 04/11/2009 23:12

They must have people to do the normal IT! Not the Malcolm stuff, the "my sodding screen's frozen again" stuff. Never seems to happen on Spooks. "Oh, bloody hell - Malcolm? what does "404 Error could not find" mean?"

edam · 04/11/2009 23:12

All admin, security and stuff will be contracted out, of course, to big anonymous corporation who also do the caretaking for the US and Iranian embassies. With many opportunities for mischief making.

Wonder why they haven't used that as a plot device yet, actually. Except that Lucas wouldn't smoulder quite as well if he were wearing dinner lady overalls...

edam · 04/11/2009 23:16

UQD, I suspect that's what my BIL does, he just pretends it's far more meaningful. And dreams up titles for projects about how to work more efficiently...

I reckon all that positive vetting stuff for six months before he could start the job was just a pretence. Am sure he gave a mate a fiver to come round and send my sister out of the room while he was questioned about whether he'd ever had any homosexual experiences...

foxinsocks · 05/11/2009 07:58

oh I loved that Malcolm and Colin thing. There was definitely something there

bambipie · 05/11/2009 08:49

Oh, it was good! How many episodes are there? I'm sure there were some 'feelings' between Malcolm and Colin, but I don't think they were 'lovers' as such, just all a bit intense. The Colin hanging episode was so powerful.
V glad they didn't kill Malcolm off, but I am very worried about how they will solve anything without him! I did have a tear or two when he saved the boy, but I blame pg hormones for that.
DH was puzzled by why Ruth didn't have more of a tan, I had to explain that she is the kind of careful person who would use factor 30+ and wear a hat. She is a bloody good actress.
Lucas is very delicious but I still miss Adam. Lucas doesn't have that tiny little bit of vulnerability that Adam had.

I might be confused but had evil Connie not killed Ben in a particularly horrid way about an hour earler - team seemed to get over it rather quickly! I can't remember what happened to Connie though.

bronze · 05/11/2009 09:19

And what about the people who empty the bins and clean the floors?

I would have happily emptied Adams Adam bin for him

ShrinkingViolet · 05/11/2009 09:31

bambipie - Connie killed Ben in the second to last episode of last series (I think) - there was time before they brought her back to sort out the Russian bomb (which killed her when she defused it, after confessing to Lucas it was because of her he was held by the russians). They don't really go in for mourning though, there's always more running around to be done (or in Jo's case, another smudge of black eyeline to apply ).
