Woof!

They let the child (and Malcolm) live - they've gone all soft on us again!

Perhaps Ruth will soften towards Harry by series 12/13?

Saltire · 04/11/2009 22:05

IN the scene where Lucas was asking the CIA woman if she would put a track on teh CIA man DH turnedto me and said "you'd have rolled over by now wouldn't you and let him do what he wanted". I said "of course"

Poor Ruth - it was lovely to see her, but so sad for her too

BonfiresOfInsanity · 04/11/2009 22:08

I LOVED IT!!

UnquietDad · 04/11/2009 22:12

fox - he is Rani's dad/ the headmaster in Sarah Jane Adventures.

foxinsocks · 04/11/2009 22:15

lol of course UQD. I wondered why I found his anger confusing (he's such a softy in SJ). I know it's the wrong thread but did you enjoy the Dr on those episodes? I quite enjoyed them tbh

UnquietDad · 04/11/2009 22:15

Yes!

tillykins · 04/11/2009 22:15

OMG

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 04/11/2009 22:17

Yep, it was fabulous.

Saltire, it's those eyes and that voice. We are powerless to resist.

Ruth suits the grey misery. She was always a London girl. She just didn't look right being all shiny and sunny. Soon (well, five years or so) she and Harry will be happily listening to opera together.

I only hope that if anyone ever gets a contract out on me the guy who comes along is as easily talked around as that big numpty. He gave being an assassin a bad name...

Katisha · 04/11/2009 22:17

Couldn't watch. By 9.30 was washing up, putting out recycling etc etc

I hate it when they involve children - part of me thinks it's a cheap way to ratchet up the tension.

foxinsocks · 04/11/2009 22:18

yes Ruth is so much a Londoner. She always makes me think of marina (who used to be on here, sob).

Mcdreamy · 04/11/2009 22:18

he's been in something else too

agedknees · 04/11/2009 22:19

Is Malcolm married?

UnquietDad · 04/11/2009 22:19

His name is Ace Bhatti. Which is a pretty cool name for an actor!

UnquietDad · 04/11/2009 22:19

I think Malcolm "never married."

ShrinkingViolet · 04/11/2009 22:21

Malcom isn't married - he lived with his mother until she died (I think). Read into that what you will .

Mcdreamy · 04/11/2009 22:21

Just googled him. He has been in Bend it Like Beckham and Cardiac Arrest - I was thinking Dr!

Funbags · 04/11/2009 22:22

can anyone remind me of the ruth story? I've forgotten about her...

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 04/11/2009 22:23

Katisha, I now feel heartless, but they did send lovely Malcolm to offer himself as a sacrifice for the boy.

I bet they'll steer clear of any child-related tension for the rest of the series as they have covered that. All your domestic tasks must be ignored in favour of 'Spooks' from now on.

Katisha · 04/11/2009 22:25

You're 'ard Florence...

No the child will presumably still be around with Ruth and will be a handy plot-device, in the same way that Adam's son was.

Funbags · 04/11/2009 22:27

ah right just fond this

"Ruth Evershed is a fictional Intelligence Analyst seconded from GCHQ to MI5, featured in the British Television Series Spooks, also known as MI5 in the United States. Ruth was played by Nicola Walker from the time the character joined the show in 2003, until Walker left to have a baby in 2006. She returned in 2009.

Before working in MI5 she attended Corpus Christi, Oxford, where she studied Classics [1] After obtaining her degree she applied for a job in GCHQ.

She was introduced in Series 2 as an intelligence analyst, seconded from GCHQ. [2] Her supreme intelligence amongst other qualities, quickly made her an established and trusted member of the team. She formed strong bonds with Tom Quinn, Zoe Reynolds, Danny Hunter and in particular Harry Pearce. During her time in MI5 a romance started to develop between Ruth and Harry Pearce. In Series 5, the romance came out in the open, [3]and in Episode 3 he finally asked her to dinner.[4] But Ruth, ashamed when people started rumours about their relationship, called it off at the end of the episode. [5]

Ruth's final episode was Episode 5. Having witnessed the suicide of Mik Maudsley, a worker at Cotterdam Prison which was under investigation after a fire which occurred there, killing 7 terror suspects,[6] she was suspected of Maudsley's murder. Evidence proving this was faked by Oliver Mace, in order to persuade Harry to join a group that supported torture. Although Harry was willing to go to prison to save her, instead she faked her own death so that he could continue to fight for MI5. Meeting for their final goodbye, Harry tried to declare his love for Ruth but she told him to leave it as 'something wonderful, that was never said.' [7] She and Harry shared a goodbye kiss as she left on a barge to venture into the unknown.

Ruth returns in Series 8 Episode 1, with intent to help Section D find Harry before it is too late. Ruth had married and settled down in Greece. Her husband was shot dead, leaving her to look after her step child on her own"

edam · 04/11/2009 22:27

Didn't Malcolm make it pretty clear he and Colin had been best chums after Colin had been topped?

Can't believe Malcolm is just going to retire... surely at some point during the series the baddies will get to him or MI5 will be desperately in need of his services because the new boy gets stuck after turning it off and on again doesn't work?

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 04/11/2009 22:27

Ruth was the researcher on the Grid and rarely left the office (unless to create Unresolved Sexual tension on bench on South Bank with Harry). She was always very complex and thoughtful and found it hard to give herself up to the whole Spooks business. She was conflicted (as the new woman from the CIA might say). I think that she is the closest to a 'normal' woman that they have come on Spooks which is why she is so fascinating.

She left as she was falsely accused of something. I seem to remember the Home Secretary demanding her head on a plate, so her death was faked.
