I watched it agog. Obviously ill, but I felt sorry for the men, she obviously has a very good knack of seeking out the insecure and vulnerable men and ensnaring them.

made my skin crawl listening too.

She gave me the creeps but I couldn't help watching- it was just so fascinating to see someone so deluded! I can't believe how normal the boyfriend was(Simon was it?), the one she didn't marry. The one who was into litterature. Did anyone else think the sketches they kept showing were quite bizarre? They painted a good picture though.

yes he did seem normal, DH reckons that it was the fact that he refused to marry her that kept her hanging onto him.

What a bizarre situation when she was living with 2 of her husbands at the same time (one an "ex" the other that she married) and seeing Simon on the side as well !

I don't think the ex boyfriend was 'normal' he knew she was a bigamist fantasist yet maintained a realtionship with her, even after she pretended her sister had died of an overdose. His standards in relationships are therefore pretty warped.

I thought it was very sad for the husbands, they seem to really beleive that they had found some special romatic love with her, so wne along with the whirlwind reltionship only to have their lives then fall apart before thier eyes. They seemed quite vulnerable men that she had obviously purposely targetted, most rationale worldly wise men would have avoided her like the plague.

She is obviously mentally ill.

I agree many people do live in quite distorted realies, where they are perpetually at the centre of a drama and the truth is a murky unclear concept to them, but she was a very dangerous extreme version of this.

I missed thr last 15mins, what happened to her in the end? did she break up with wayne?

The porn film was awful

The sketch parts reminded me of Aha "Take on Me". When fantasy & reality collide ... maybe thats what they wanted us to be reminded of.

my favourite part was when waynes mum started laughing in her face while she was trying to dig her way out of another lie. she tried to keep on talking but the mum nearly went into kinks laughing at her everytime she opened her mouth. high five waynes mum.

oh yeah, and escorts are different from prostitutes because escourts can say no but prostitutes cant!!!! wtf, does she honestly think people believe this cr*p?

No, she was still with wayne. Wayne's family seemed most uncomfortable about it, didn't they ?
Baroness, I thought ex-bf was very odd too. Like conceited. Like he had dumped her and not fallen into her trap like the other men who became her husbands. Yet he too, was aware of her lies. And her bigotry - he was one of the first to realise this, (when he saw her ring, having married dh2 whilst living in dh1's house) but he never did anythign about it,(report to police) did he ??!!

What worried me was that all 5 husbands were.... how shall I put this...... meek, shy introverted, not sharpest knife draw(is that a bit far, too much).
Including wayne. whose mum and sister are obviously cottoned on to her well quickly, but they are unable to talk any sense to wayne, and thus his relationship with her continues.
Has she fallen pg, had a miscarriage and wanted to get married with him, in a week, aswell. Hightlty likely !!

I saw this too. They will be writing theses on her in future years. There will be a new syndrome, called EmilyWhateverHerSurnameWas Syndrome.

I think she purposely chose dodgy/unworldly blokes and then made them dependent on her for sex.

I must say, I was a bit about that Simon though. He was a bit odd too imho. Bad as each other.

God it was shocking wasn't it. What a truly odd woman, and yes, she reminds me of somebody I know well.

I know you shouldn't laugh but I actually sniggered at the bit where she was all righteous about getting recalled for her smear test and telling her partner that she had 4 months to live, I mean wtf!!!

I felt most sorry for her second husband, the guy with the glasses. He still didn't have a bad word to say about her and didn't even seem to feel as if he had been badly treated. What kind of life has he had to make him have such tragically low expectations of relationships?

I also laughed at the bit where she ran out of the house leaving her two husbands and ex boyfriend behind, jumped on the first train, and shagged the train guard.

Holy crap, lady!

The whole thing looked as if she was auditioning to play David Brent or something. Truly, truly odd.

Oblomov - don't think she's still with Wayne - bit right at the end (in writing) said that she was living on her own in a flat.

I thought the sisters of hsband no5 told a sad story about thier youger brother. These men seemed so sucked in by soemthing they just could not understand.

Awful when she accused him of beating her also. a total life wrecking person, and she did not seem to have any empathy with anyone else beyond how it played out in her drama of which she was the centre.

How many pregnacies and miscarriages did she claim to have had??

Was bonkers right up to the end - she wrote the beloved Simon a poem and drove all the way to his house to deliver it before her court appearance.

But he couldn't see her as he was writing a job application.

You couldn't make it up!

I was open-mouthed throughout the half hour or so I caught of this last night. Funny too think of her posting here from her little flat- I bet she does

oh yes Zapp, cSimon ouldn't see her coz he was .... "writing a job application". I sniggered and sniggered. Clearly she was the love of his love then

Booooooooooyhoo I agree, that bit was hilarious! She seemed completely oblivious to them being able to see right through her.

Did anyone else feel the progamme was pandering to her and giving her the attention she probably craved?

I found it quite disturbing as I have a friend with mental health issues and this woman reminded me very strongly of her, though their lives are not remotely the same. The way she spoke, quickly, authoritatively and the way she had everything worked out in her own mind, it was just like listening to my friend when she speaks of her problems. She is clearly mentally ill, maybe all mentally ill people are like this? I don't know. Why was she not receiving any therapy for her mental health I wonder?

That said, I had to wonder at the men she married. Are there really men out there who would agree to marry someone they have only known 2 weeks? If I had read it in a novel, I would have thrown the book down in disgust as it would read like a plot written by a 10 year old. I agree all her men had a sort of downtrodden hopelessness about them - even the one who got away was living with his parents - but I was shocked that no fewer than 5 men agreed to marriage having known her only a very short time.

Report
MorrisZapp · 23/10/2009 16:33

Yes I thought that. When she was doing all that over dramatic stuff direct to camera, she had clearly rehearsed such a moment in her mind many times over.

She craves attention - what was that stuff about near the end with her dad taking photos of her? Weird.

God knows what she'll do next to get attention, and who will be hurt in the process.

Report
Booooooooooyhoo · 23/10/2009 16:36

kerala, i think it came across like that because as soon as they tried to question her/ doubt her, she closed up, and wouldnt talk about things. so in order to get the story, they needed to keep her sweet.

Report
Oblomov · 23/10/2009 16:46

Yes kerela. Her whole life , purpose in life seemed to be attention seeking.
