I live abroad and from time to time fancy watching some TV in English.

Recently DH and I have been addicted to enjoyed 24, Dexter and The Wire.

Would love some suggestions of other things to watch, especially any British series (so DH doesn't develop such an American accent ). They don't have to be police/murder style programmes, in fact a bit of comedy might be nice. Or some drama.

So, what do you recommend, oh wise MNs?

beaniebaby25 · 14/09/2009 22:04

another vote for Peep Show here

queenofdenial2009 · 14/09/2009 22:13

For British, try Benidorm. Not well known but very funny.

The US does seem to do these the best - I've enjoyed Jericho, Huff, Shark, Lost, Grey's Anatomy (bit girly) and House.

tkband3 · 14/09/2009 22:16

Green Wing was very funny and Spooks is brilliant.

Another vote for The West Wing and I have just watched series 1 and 2 of Grey's Anatomy which I've also really enjoyed.

What about Pulling? Very funny though quite outrageous at times!

Do you like costume drama? Cranford was very good. Also Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes.

bea · 14/09/2009 23:00

Life on Mars, Cold Feet, and I know it is American - but Mad Men is brilliant.

Oh and Spooks is the best.

Fimbo · 16/09/2009 13:47

Lost (American I know)

Agree about Cold Feet.

You (not so much your dh) might enjoy Mistresses (BBC1 drama).

RubberDuck · 16/09/2009 13:51

American, but can't believe no-one's mentioned "Firefly".

Everyone should watch Firefly.

Lakota · 16/09/2009 13:55

Not British, but Prison Break - for the gorgeous Wentworth Miller. Missed it first time around and am loving it at the moment (am also a fan of Dexter, Sopranos etc)

Gavin and Stacey

Summer Heights High (Australian) is quite amusing (mockumentary about an Australian High School)

paisleyleaf · 16/09/2009 13:58

Breaking Bad.
American, but so good.

Sunshinemummy · 16/09/2009 14:02

Californication (actually my fave at the mo)
Skins
Spooks
Mad Men
Life on Mars
Ashes to Ashes
Being Human
Pulling
Gavin & Stacey
The Office (and if you like it Extras)
State of Play
The State Within
If you like trashy but fun - Mistresses, Hotel Babylon, Footballers Wives, Diary of a Call Girl.

MrsWicket · 16/09/2009 14:05

The Sheild. Tis fab. In the same vein as stuff you mentioned. Vic Mackie is the best!!!

vivaGlasvegas · 16/09/2009 17:54

we've just finished the wire(gutted there's no more ), and we also love 24, so guessing we have similar taste, and I back up the votes for the West Wing. (and gavin and stacey!)

nct73 · 18/09/2009 13:06

Another vote for Spooks & IT Crowd. Black Books & Spaced if into comedy. Lewis & Kingdom for gentle drama. Inbetweeners getting lots of votes. Was only £10 for series 1 + 2 in Asda yesterday. Nearly got it. Wish I had now.
