Was anyone else mildly amused by the news that Michael Parkinson's family tree was too boring for Who do you think you are?

I was.

Though the fact that all his ancestors were miners and labourers should have provided them with some interesting social history but I suppose that's not commercial enough for the BBC...

I was stunned she hadn't heard of the Dreyfuss Affair too as she came across as much more knowledgeable than I thought she was. (She speaks 2 languages fgs - that always impresses me!)

But then I thought about it. I learnt about the Dreyfuss Affair doing A level history. So if I hadn't done that subject, I doubt I would have learnt about it subsequently. Still, with her ancestor playing such a major part in it.... no it was a bit dumb.

When it was the Kevin Whateley one and he had the ancestor who was a Turkey merchant I was not entirely convinced he didn't know that this meant a merchant in Turkey not a poultry seller....

Edam - No connection to Northampton, this was Earlestown, Lancashire. Though rather sweetly my Grandad remembers his Grandad mending neighbour's shoes in his shed long after he retired.

I think I saw the story about the black football player on tv a few months ago.

ROFL at Kathy and the turkey one.

I thought for Davina to not have known that part of her family history was v. v. strange. She must have been totally alienated from that side of the family not to know that, surely? It's such a big thing.

The Kevin Whately one was funny, he was so determned it was going to be a story of working class struggle, and they turned out to own a stately home.

And why was he the ony member of his family with a Geordie accent?
