DCs just been watching Harry Potter (yawn!) and i am mesmerised by Alan Rickman.
i think he is fantastic in everything - Galaxy Quest/ H.P./ Love Actually / Die Hard.
these are all better because of his presence.

he has got the best voice ever and just love watching him.
is it just me?

I must be even older than you lot - I remember him as Obadiah Slope in the Barchester Chronicles and he was fab then too.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 10/07/2009 23:46

I too remember Obadiah Slope.

It's the acting, innit.

cornsilk · 10/07/2009 23:55

aristocat - because someone has said so on this thread so it must be true.

expatinscotland · 11/07/2009 00:10

No, I don't like him. I'm secretly married to him and he's the love of my life, so step off because he's spoken for.

aristocat · 11/07/2009 00:10

oh silly me of course
thought you had a secret to share cornsilk?

God, yes.

I don't want to come on here to be told he's smelly. Stop it.

Truly, Madly, Deeply is an excruciating film, in spite of him.

janeite · 11/07/2009 23:53

He is utterly perfect as Colonel Brandon - swoon.

And as Snape.

A pupil once accused me of trying to plan my entire English teaching curriculum around opportunities to watch Alan Rickman films!

janeite · 11/07/2009 23:54

Love, Actually is crap though.

sweetkitty · 11/07/2009 23:58

He is fab

Pyrocanthus · 12/07/2009 00:01

Children can be very acute, Janeite.

Love Actually is, indeed, utter crap.

Housemum · 12/07/2009 00:20

Am I really missing something here? Doesn't he only have one character that he plays, whatever the film?? And his hair looks greasy - that plus the alleged stinks, you wouldn't look twice if he were just some bloke in a bar!

janeite · 12/07/2009 00:21

Hair is greasy as Snape, not as anybody else. And Snape is designed to be (until the end) an unattractive character - still sounds bloomin' lovely though!

Watch Sense And Sensibility - and then eat your words!

janeite · 12/07/2009 00:23

yum

saramoon · 12/07/2009 09:54

Thought it was just me - not sure if i actually fancy him but he has a real presence and his voice is just gorgeous

Pyrocanthus · 12/07/2009 18:07

Agree- charisma and voice more important than looks (or aroma).

littlepollyflinders · 14/07/2009 19:06

Used to adore him.
Saw him on stage decades ago and totally fell for him - charismatic, compelling etc etc probably what it must have been like seeing Brando on stage when he first appeared.
Bit concerned though that he's turning into Frankie Howerd now...
